The Rules of Poker

Is there any kind of 'official' rules of the game? I understood not but I continually see people referring to the rules without specifying whose rules.

So, are there any agreements anywhere to use certain rules or a set which are considered to be 'standard' ?

In casinos in the UK, it seems that each casino has its own set of tournament rules and cash-game rules but none for the game itself.

The casinos here where I live have specific rules as well.

The wsop has different & a lot more strict rules than most anywhere else.

You're right that there's no one universal set of rules, most places will use the above as their basis and then make their own tweaks though.
