Running the clock?

I'm in a rebuy tourney and past the first hour, i've got about 9k in chips but average is at 15k, 1500 ppl left money starts at 540, should i run the clock in order to have other tables kill eachother of or should I not.
I'm really just card dead and can't figure out which route to take any feed back is most welcome ty

I just double up i'm still below average but close enough 14.5k

Save the clock til you are almost in the money. 540 pay i would wait til there are no more than 640 left and then work the clock if i had to.

Fairenough, I was actually thinking of starting it now, but only makes sense since, there are still many ppl to go I might as well play untill then

No offense but I hate people who "run the clock" so they can try to cash. If its not ur day its not ur day no need to make everyone wait 20 seconds each hand each decision you are faced with........I mean are you that bad a player that you cant just try to win the tournament rather than just playing to cash?

actually running the clock at the right time is a very smart move...if you were short to mid stacked why not, I've seen many good players do it, and I cant hate the good play

Check the house rules for whatever site you are playing.

Some poker rooms regard intentionally delaying the game as a rule infringement, and you could have problems if opponents get annoyed and complain to support.

I actualy did this a few nights ago in a MTT when whe where 30places from the money and i had half a BB after losing AKvsAA,i was on the button and stalled every hand untill i was in the BB next and the guy who had AA in the hand actualy helped me stall and i maked it ITM.
At the right time its a smart move but i usualy dont do it and defenetly not 1000 places from the money.

I suppose, but it does get very frustrating for the rest of us that are not short to mid stacked.........

Is it really fair to say that this person is a bad player, I mean there were many reasons why I was short in the tourney, lack of cards, lack of flops, lack of ppl respecting my raise (I know rebuy right ), but to say I'm a bad player or not good enough to take it down right would be like me telling you to take a golf ball and um get a hole in one from 400feet away while you have 2 bad arms, I hope that makes any sense at all, yes your right it's a pain in the ass, but I mean I didn't buy into to throw money away did I?

Keep up the good work place in the tourny. And i dont see whats wrong with running the clock down. What if you were playing for 3-4 hours and were getting down on chips wouldnt you want to at least get your buy-in back plus a little i know i would. No use playing all that time and bubbling not a great feeling.

I wasnt saying you were a bad player, just speaking in general. I see that you have risen to the occasion. Now go win that tourney!!!!!!!!!

Clock management is a tool in the online poker players MTT arsenal, just like the cards in your hand and the chips in your stack. Not to use any one of your tools to advance in a tourney isn't wise. I am reminded of when I was teaching my Dad how to play better poker. He hated check-raising. Told me it was "dirty" way to play[ lol, I check raise him alot]. As we all know check-raising is a powerful tool, and him playing without that tool put him at a serious disadvantage. Clock managemaent is no less important in large online MTTs.

i always grind the clock in low level MTTs throughout the tournie...you know what i mean, not just let my bank start running down but just thinking through each decision rather than quick clicking...as for really dragging the clock as the bubble approaches, depends on where i am in relation to said bubble...if i have had dead cards and dont have an above average stack...i will ride out every decision i have...if i have a decent stack, i will work the clock some as to keep as many chips possible for aggressive play after the bubble.

I don't like clock runners either, but you were suggesting doing it 2 hours + from the end of the game! You shouldn't be focusing on last place then, you should just be playing your normal game.

Sounds like your Dad is from about the same era of poker I grew up in. In most live casino games, a check-raise was not allowed, even in limit games.

Tell your Dad that there are still more of us out here that believe check-raising to be 'dirty poker' ...

Doesn't running the clock from an early time kind of defeat the purpose? Am I wrong?? Do you not want to see MORE hands? Not to mention while you're running the clock the blinds are escalating.

No your absouletly correct, I was just suggesting it because at that particular time, I was card dead, not to mention the pace of the game was so fast that ppl where dropping like flies, so taking all that into consideration I figured the best move would've been for me to lay back and kill sometime, once the blinds reach a certain level, start making moves if I had hands, but then I went up to a dominate chip postion, and donked myself out, lol, so I learnt my lesseon, 10/8s is not a playable hand, in any circumstance ever

I advise using any method to win a game,so running the clock before the bubble is a legal,valuable possibility.

I can see, being within 2 or 3 people from the bubble and just having the button come to you....you have a full orbit where you might lose 3 people, but with that Summer game on PS, top 250 win, it seems to be a SUPER fast turbo for some reason..and people will sit there and wait for thier clock to come up EVERY SINGLE TIME, from the start of the game...

Wasn't really so bad up until this week..as it seemed half the sitters were actually cashing. But I couldn't help but think...by letting this time go by, the blinds are going up on you....we could have seen 20 more hands and MAYBE, just MAYBE one of those hands would have been kings aces or big slick?? Maybe not too....

Hopefully someone who KNOWS about this play will shed some more light on the matter...

Rule number 1, Always TAKE CARE OF YOUR CHIPS.

I think running the clock is fine,
if you need to do it becos you are short stacked and close to the money.
I myself have done it to get to the money,and then tryed to donkey my way back to end up on final table.
Of course it dosnt work that way most of the time.
You must do whatever it takes to make the money.
