Hello

I have a big problem i cant decide what game should i play.

Cash or Sng/Mtt ?

I prefer to play sng/mtt but everytime i decide to play only sng/mtt i find some information that its better to play cash.

So I want to finally solve this, because it is very destructive to my game.

Here a few of my concerns
- Cash player earn more than Sng/Mtt player
- In cash if you are good you can have a big big edge over other ppl.
- Cash is more steady, less variance

So what do you think?

They are both very profitable if you know what you are doing. I feel like tournaments have a way higher variation as well as way more donks who simply wont lay down their bottom pair to a bluff. Play what suits your style, not what seems better based on info. you have gathered from other sources

sounds to me your leaning towards cash games already. try some low stakes poker at a club near you. if you can be consistent in your winnings, slowly raise your stakes game. trust me you'll probably hit a level where you will think youre playing against cyborgs or anything that cant be human. drop back a stake and you have found a confort zone. always best to play when you feel good and positive about the players and your surroundings.

Im trying play cash before, but im stuck always at nl10 or nl25. And cant beat nl25.
I discovered mttsng and i enjoy them a bit more than cash. (Right now im playing STT for study HU, 3handed games and ICM).
But as i said before, I always find some information that its better to play cash. And if you are good its easier to earn money at cash games, because at higher stakes mtt, edge is veryyy small.

if you have the time, and you really want to learn it is really worth it to start in cash games.. cause the $ earned is more steady+better, and the transition to tournaments is so much easier

good cash game players can do very well in w/e tournaments they decide to play and can go back to their ring games..

good tournament players can have very hard times on ring games even on the lowest of limits.

ehh im so confuse now ;/

I've tried to focus before on cash games, but after 4 unsuccessful shots at nl25 i just lost all motivation. So maybe cash is not for me? Or i just dont spent enough time?

So cash = better $$ and more steady
Mtt = ??? Nothing at all? hmm?

Well you have to find a level of play that is suitable to your playing ability. How long have you been playing poker & online poker?

About 8 months, but first 6month its nothing more than recreational playing. Last 2 month, i decide to really focus on game and i went from nl5 to nl25 but as i said before after 4 unsuccessful shots at nl25 i just lost all motivation for cash games ( I spent a lot of time to improve my game, and still cant beat nl25, This thing has destroyed my mindset i mean if i cant even beat nl25 what I'm looking for at cash games??)

IMO, that's not enough playing experience. You first need to establish some experience by playing in only one level until you have enough data (hands and stats) and proof that you can beat that level.

After that you can move up.

It's not a good idea to just jump into 25NL like you have & expect to win. You simply just don't have enough playing experience. There definitely are exceptions (just like in every field of work) that some people can succeed right away in higher levels of play. It takes time and you have to be a patient person. Practice makes perfect.

Start back @ 2NL and play a reasonable amount of hands there. Try to conquer it and then move to next level.

mtt players make $, just the variance is a little higher & you can run into some dryspells.. do what works best for you, also dont be discouraged because you cant beat 25nl , recoup your loses by beating 5nl if you have been having success at that limit.. because no matter what you play your going to run into a obstacle sooner or later.

Yes, definitely don't get discouraged. But, I wouldn't go back to 5NL, I would start @ 2NL. Establish significant data (hands and stats) & then move up to 5NL.

There are numerous successful 2NL players that strictly play there & nowhere else. Once you can multi-table, it will be easier for you to be successful. Some players win as much on 2NL by multi-tabling as some 25NL players do by playing only 1 or 2 tables.

JW wouldnt it be better to start playing cash at .01/.02 so u can beat that stake and then on to the next once your confident your ability to play has greatly improved and you need more of a challenge.

if you are playing cash games that is. not saying u need to start with cash then go to Mtt or SnG can do what ever you like but if your gona play cash then start at lower stakes and work your way up.

Before at nl10 i played about 30k hands, with +10bb/100, but nl25 just destroyed my mindset and my game.
So do you think it's worth trying again cash instead of mtt/sng, start at the bottom cash once again?

No way dude.

If you were successful @ 10NL then there's no reason to start back @ the bottom.

Go back to 10NL & keep winning. Maybe after another 20K hands, you can try 25NL again.

As far as sngs/mtts go, take a shot @ it & see if you like it or succeed. Play @ least 100 tourneys & see how you're doing. You can build a bankroll pretty well if you can multi-table sngs/mtts.

But, once you find out what you're best @, then I would stick to one area. Either cash games or sngs/mtts. Whatever you find to be most successful. There's no reason to quit trying.

When i played nl10 i just felt a great. I was learning, watching movies, reading various articles, I still improved my game but after 4 unsuccessful shots at nl25 i just felt soo bad. And now I still have that feeling, if nl25 is a big obstacle for me/Big Wall, I will never attain mid/high stakes at cash. ;/

But, you'll never know until you get more experience playing.

Give 10NL a go again for about 20k hands & then try 25NL. If you then don't succeed, try & try again. You will get better w/ experience

I chose SnG's to fund my MTT's. I dont play but maybe 2 to 6 hours a week so Ijust wasnt able to grind out anything worth my time in the cash games. I play Double or Nothings to fund $10 MTT. Ive had two good cashes this year of $700 and $600. I would of never been able to get there with my low hours at cash tables. Goodluck

Today I played cash games for two hours but i was bored as hell.
I liked cash before but now after I discovered mtt/sng, cash is boringggg.
But as i said in previous post, if cash = better easier and steadier $$, why play mtt/sng?

Play what you like best. Sounds like u like cash games best so do them at a slow pace until you find a comfort zone.

Quit min-maxing and look at the big picture. Your big picture, not anyone else's. How much do you play poker to make money vs. for enjoyment? How much more do you enjoy tournaments vs. cash? And over the long run, what difference in hourly win rate do you expect to experience?

In my case, I enjoy tournaments much more, and play mainly for enjoyment (of course, making money adds to it). Historically, my hourly win rate is a fair bit higher at cash, but not enough for me to focus on it. I play some because there are times when I'm more in the mood, so it's also not a case of having to choose one or the other.

find the game you play best and make the most money at.
if that's cash then so be it, if its tournament then so be it. if its a 3 handed game of manilla played in a barn with 2 old sailors at 3 in the morning on the last tuesday of the month, then so be it. find what is profitable and stick with it until its no longer profitable. then find something else.
