Proof that I can run good at 25nl! I put the ev line on too to remind me im on a heater and its not all my mad poker skillz, however im still below ev for the month.

PS: Ive played bugger all hands in 3 days as ive just moved up to my new house with some mates and getting the internet sorted and unpacking ect has been stealing my hours. Hopefully now im finally set up (the last three weeks have been crazy hectic) I can plug in some real hours.

Weee - got my books today. Looks like I need them too - the last few days have sucked for tournaments.

I am still winning on the cash tables - though only playing 1 table for a short while each day.

I got Slansky.Miller's NLHE Theory and Practice per ChuckTs recommendation - and went ahead and ordered HOH vol 2 so I could get free shipping lol.

Starting HOH vol 1 this week to get ready for the book discussion.

Are the books Harrington on cash games or whetever there called, worth buying? I know Chuck and Zach bought them.

The HoC books are good, but so much of the advice in them is geared toward higher limits and tougher players than most of us currently play. They are certainly worth the read though imo.

TAP >>> HoC if you ask me. There's never anything wrong with new information, but I think even when the book was put out it was a little outdated and just not as good as TAP. For ex, one thing he suggests is open limping the button.

fwiw Hunter over at Stox recently mentioned this as a valid counter strategy in an aggressive game with marginal hands you want to play in position but can't stand a 3-bet with. I forget the exact context, but when looking at strategies we should be looking at the logic and such, not just "omg open limping OTB is bad". Not saying you are, and I'm sure you pretty much knew everything I just said, just an example as to how you can't exactly dismiss a concept just because it goes against general wisdom.

Well of course there's a time and a place for everything (minraise anyone?). Suggesting it as anything close to a default strategy is pretty ridiculous though. I could be blowing this a little out of proportion though as I haven't read the books in a while and can't remember the exact context under which he suggested it.

I read the HoC books when they were released and initially thought they were pretty good. When the folks at that other forum criticized Harrington for giving advice that was too conservative for midstakes and up I didn't believe them.

In retrospect I'll have to say they were probably right. Particularly 6-max games at midstakes and higher are so aggressive nowadays that a lot of what Harrington suggests needs to be taken with a bag of salt.
What helped my game infinitely more than reading Harrington was watching higher stakes training videos (5/10 and up). These videos aren't "dumbed down" for smaller stakes, they show you what it's like to play against strong, aggro opponents. And that's invaluable...

Yeah, but whenever I watch those and try to take too much from them, I'll end up just getting way too aggro when the answer is to just be one step ahead of them. Currently at the level I'm playing it seems most players just steal too much and don't adjust to 3-betting/do much 3-betting themselves. So the solution is to 3-bet a ton, and not 4-bet until someone's shown they will 3-bet light. Saw a humorous quote somewhere on 2+2, forget where, but it was someone who had watched some high-stakes HU videos, and was jokingly saying "ok so I'm in position, he knows my range is wide, so he's 3-betting a lot of bluffs, I know this so I'll 4-bet, he knows I know his range is semi-wide so he'll 5-bet a wide range, ok I'll just put him in for value with my 99. WTF AA again? Why does he always have the top of his range? @#%@#%@#%@#%@#%@#%"

Had a session this morning, went ok up a buy in and a bit.

I'll hopefully play another session when I get home at midnight tonight!

I had a better day yesterday - made enough profit to put me back in the black since I started tracking my earnings 9 days ago. I actually had a small profit in tournaments for the day - go figure.

Will play a little today then won't get to play much again for a week. Going to Aspen. At least I will get to dig into my books a bit on the plane.

Didnt bother playing poker last night, even left out the juicy live cash game i play every Tuesday night. Monday was ok'ish. Played for about an hour on nl$100 (bad me) and won just over a buyin, played the CC monday game and won it on Stars and played an $11 MTT coming in 21st for just under $50. (out of 1850 players lol, very top heavy pay day)

The main difference was though I played it all on a laptop without any HUD or tracker running. It felt great, and it really helped me with my awareness of players and their hand ranges, note taking, and some nice reads. Nice for a change of pace tbh.

I feel your pain...lost about 8 sngs today...kk<44 aipf, aa< straight aipf, last one was bubble, short stacked and jj<k4 and insult to injury makes a full houe with it. Those were just the glaring hands I remembered, lol. The upswing ss graph took a nose dive today.
