My 20-year poker journey has been quite a roller coaster ride. I consider myself a decent casual poker player and have experienced various levels of success but never the win that can bang start a decent bankroll to get into higher satkes.

The main issue with me is patience. I play for a few months, observing proper bankroll management and then I jump into some high-stakes game with everything hoping to win the lottery - only to get cut down and have to start all over again. This is the vicious cycle that I must break!

I myself have been playing prker for about 20 years. Of which 15 years in online poker.

I myself had the same problems with the BRM before. Sometimes when losing several times in a row in SnGs HU, i broke down and went to win back at the stakes higher and higher, while often losing a significant part of the bankroll.

But i found a way to "cure" it: i began to leave a very small number of buy-ins in the bankroll in the poker room for the game, making constant cashouts. For me this has been very effective. And now i don’t even have a desire to win back with an unsuccessful streak. On the contrary, i go for lower limits when there are drawdowns in the bankroll.

Preaching to the choir, man. Well, except for the lottery thing. Patience is not a friend of mine either. I think I'd be a bad doctor because I have no patience. Ok, that was lame as well as old. I think that joke can vote now. Anyways the only way to avoid having no patience is to put yourself in situations that require it and go from there. I don't, necessarily, mean poker but situations like traffic in the middle of Austin on a Monday morning; or in a line for a popular ride at a theme-park; or behind someone who is purchasing $200 in "scratchers" while your milk warms up while standing there; or me giving more examples of enduring patience. Make it through crap like these in-tact and without an assault charge and you're on your way to making those hard calls and lay-downs. GL man.

I am glad you found that workaround!

I remember once being so close to the point where I could withdraw and try as I might - could not push past the cap. I do not have to tell you what happened next. Go big or go home... so I went home with a busted bankroll. Sniff..sniff!

Discipline is so important to playing good poker!

Old jokes still rock! I did crack a chuckle when I read it.

Age has a way of teaching you patience too. Eventually, you realize that you can go kicking and screaming or enjoy the ride.

Needless to say, I am enjoying the ride. I just make a point of not putting my own money into the game; instead, I play freerolls until that glorious day when I am up and running again.

Cannot escape patience! Once again, I am at its mercy.

Hoping to get a bankroll this summer.

I've been at it for 40-years. I feel your pain. And yes, patience is everything, regardless of experience or abilities. At least that's my opinion and it's served me well.

I have been playing poker for a little over a year, after investing almost 100 dollars, I already have a positive balance, I raised my level of bets a little and now I play a little more calmly, I take more risks and continued trying to raise more betting level, freerolls and satellites have helped me a lot.

I have learned this the hard way and as penance, have embraced a Zero bankroll Builder Challenge. It is my hope to get it right this time. I am not sure why CC Freerolls is not a regular event for me. Even when I worked hard to make it all the way to platinum and completed the "Become A Winning Poker Player in 30 Days" challenge - I stopped playing.

Life happens I suppose. This time, I hope to take it slow and steady. This club is awesome and it is time I aim to be consistent and continue playing regularly. My eyes are fixed on getting some CC Merchandise!

Nice to hear. "Remember to play at the right stakes" - advice I tend to ignore and get impatient

. I suppose you are at the $1.00 MTT and S&G buy-in level with $100 bankroll, if you are observing the 100 x buy-in guideline. I cannot wait to get there!

Do check out my Zero bankroll Builder Challenge thread. Your advice can be just what I need to move up in poker sometime in the near future. I hope to play CC freerolls regularly and contribute as much as I can to the community. It has been loads of fun so far and I am glad to be back.

I learned the game online in 2004 (with immediate success in MTTs).

I played a lot online between 2004 - 2007.

I dealt poker and was a tournament director from 2007 - 2014.

I played here and there online from 2007 - 2012, but stopped playing completely in 2012.

I made a career change and stepped away from poker completely from 2014 - 2020.

Feb 1st 2020, I won $1.40 in a CardsChat freeroll and decided to try to build up a BR again.

Since Feb 1st 2020, I've made over $16,000, mostly from MTTs.

The journey has been interesting, but I do finally feel like I have a solid consistent game that brings in a nice side income.

P.S. I'm available to use as a reference/ask questions. I'm happy to help.

Started in casual live games with friends, recently went online.
I like the game, but never had the time and consistency to step to higher levels, only casual player. I'd surely like to, and may do that someday...

I still consider myself a casual player. Now, I am actually setting goals to build a poker bankroll and trying to take the game more seriously.

First couple of years played only with play money. Next one year lost some money. Took me 1.5 year to win it back. Kept grinding and never looked back for the last 12 years.

Poker sure is a grind. I am yet to get to the point where I am happy with the returns for the invested time that I put into the game.

I am trying hard to move up in stakes by building a bankroll from the freerolls. I am almost at my 3-digit mark and cannot wait to play at least $1.00 tournaments regularly.
