sidebet in online tournament

while playing a PLO hi/lo tournament, following happened in the chat:

For the integrity of the other players I removed their names.


So actually me and an opponent made a last-longer sidebet.
Now, I suppose actually, it’s upon the integrity of the players involved, if they will pay the other player after losing such bet.
Am I right in this ?

Well, it happened I lasted longer but obv did not receive the $ 10.

I don’t really care about $ 10, but I do care about fairness and integrity.

So what do you think ?
Should I just let this go or should I somehow warn other players for this player being a scumbag ?
Is there even a way to warn other players , for example by revealing his name on a forum or something ?

Am I a scumbag if I would do so ?

He was freerolling you. Really you should not make side bets in game chat. There is plenty of other ways to have side bets, you can do it with trusted members here in CC games if you really want to have side bets.

Chalk it up to experience imo, and dont do it again.

Oh and for the freerolling thing...you're right there because I would have paid if I would have lost the bet.

You really can't expect someone you don't know to pay up on a bet.

i am always up for a last longer bet

arrangements, trap, and other tricks are there in almost all games. goes into each one according to his moral and honesty play and enforce the rules. you got to choose what seems like good or bad

It's a trick and I think you only deal with someone that you trust. you should warn other players about this guy.

This remonds me of the chat when watching the pros play high limit on full tilt back in the days,there was so much betting on how much xxx player would dump or be up that night. of course none of them ever payed up on anything.

Lots of ppl make side bets on chat but no one actually pays up. It's an open chat and you don't know the players , even if you had paid him , how would you know if he would have kept his side of the bargain if he lost? .

I would never have known.
Now I know he has not and so now I know it's not a good idea to do a sidebet with an unknown.

Suppose this could be a warning to everyone here: Do not make sidebets with unknown when playing .
If you want to make sidebets, only do it with trusted people.

really unheard of to me. Never ever heard of a online side bet, maybe I should make more online poker friends. lol

Actually... w/o real proof how would you know?

I used to bet with other guys in obs. chat on FTP in some of the bigger tournament final tables.
With one guy I swear I lost like first 4x to same guy & paid him every time. Went on for mos. actually (bets got bigger & we both always paid)

I certainly wouldn't recommend it though
