I seriously cannot stand when someone slow rolls. Its just an all around dickhead move. Idk why you would do that to someone other than to piss them off. I understand the occidental slow roll but if you do it intentionally your just a troll.

If you see someone doing that then it is not that hard to put this person to 😴
Or if this person does it hand after hand then it is not that difficult to eliminate such players either lol ...

How is it a dickhead move. If the goal is to get all the chips and a slow roll works why wouldn't you do it

In some cases that would be a strategy to piss you off and win .I hate it too

I think it's fine if you are in a friendly game with friends that you know won't get mad about it. However, I couldn't imagine doing it to a stranger at the card room.

I only remember seeing it one time, and the victim was pissed. The slow roller was probably giving up about six inches and 100 lbs to the guy he did it to, which made it even more ridiculous. 😱

No one really likes when it happens to them, so I understand the frustration . However, I believe it's done in most part to get the largest pot possible. If you have the nuts and someone keeps firing into the pot, wouldn't you want them to do so?

I often use this technique, it helps me to focus or unbalance the player

Anger and loss of concentration are the worst in poker. The harm will only be to you, so you need to learn not to pay attention to it. It's like bad beats, there's nothing you can do about it.

Slowrolling bothers most and that is why they do it. I wouldn't intentionally slowroll; it is terrible sportsmanship and just wastes everyone's time for no reason.

I think you are confusing "slowrolling" with playing a hand "slow" or "Hollywooding."

Playing a hand "slow" is to have a good hand like AA and check or call passively to induce the opponent(s) into action for you and then you can trap them later in the hand. Playing "fast" by value betting, raising and re-raising is generally more profitable, but playing "slow" is a viable strategy.

Hollywooding is a slang term for a poker player "acting" and giving the impression that their decision is tougher than it is, or that their hand is different from what they are trying to convey. This would include something like taking a long time to "think" about calling on the River when you hold an Ace-high Flush (nuts likely the best hand) but there are players after you left to act. This is justifiable by strategy because you are hoping to get the players left to act after you to put in their chips (when they would have a quick fold if they believed your hand was strong).

Slowrolling is, however, poor sportsmanship and different from the above two cases though. Slowrolling is like Hollywooding, but wasting the time when there is no strategy reason to do so. Basically, they are being a jerk by intentionally stalling the game just to crush your hopes when they finally reveal their better hand after a long wait.

The classic slowroll move is on the River when they are LAST to act with a hand which is a snap-call. Say one opponent is All-In, but the Slowroller is on the Button (last to act) and has the best possible hand on the River (something like Four of a Kind in Aces when no Straight Flush is possible). The slowroller wouldn't snap call like most would, but rather take forever to "decide" and then call after a long wait. Unlike the example above where others left to act might invest chips, the slowroller is last to act and just wastes everyone's time.

Slowrolling is arguably the most disrespectful move a poker player could make and usually players at a table would rally against a slowroller if it occurred in a game.

Here is a comical representation to illustrate what slowrolling is and how people generally react:

Thanks for breakdown of the differences. I was definately referring to "Hollywooding".

In that case yes it's a very douche move.

I don't care how my opponents play, it's their business. The main thing is that during the game I was focused and made good decisions. There is no point in paying attention to everything else.

Some players slowroll to piss off their opponents, because when a player gets emotional they are almost always not playing optimally from a strategy standpoint.

Other players slowroll because they don't want to reveal their hand to the other players at the table. So they wait until you show your hand, and that way, if they don't have you beat, they can muck and not show. If they DO have you beat, then they reveal their hand so they can win the pot.

The way most casinos prevent this is to have a specific rule about who must show first. Some casinos enforce this rule vigorously, others do not... your main defense is to know what the rule is and when you get to a showdown on the river, simply say to your opponent, "You have to show first". The dealer will always back you up, and in many casinos, the dealer will actually point to the player and order them to show their hand. Other casinos the dealer will simply say something like "lets see the cards gentlemen (or ladies)", or they'll just say "show me a winner", and this is where it benefits you to know the proper order of showdowns. Live poker is a game of information so these sort of slowrolls are pretty common. The players who are intentionally slowrolling just to make someone angry, those are just dickheads, pardon my language. LOL Its difficult but you should just take these players in stride and not give them the emotional reaction they are seeking. Don't play their game, play your own!

I'm not nervous about such players. How to play is everyone's personal choice. I keep my emotions under control and ready for any opponents.

Slow rolling is not punished in any way, which means that it is not forbidden, it is allowed.

when I was learning to play mtt I used to do that and I had good results today I don't do it anymore.

I think people slowroll to try and purposely tilt there opponent to get them out of there game. Me personally I wouldn't do it cause it slows the game down but if someone tried to slowroll me I wouldn't complain cause I would know that my opponent is trying to piss me off and allow me to fall for it.

Some do it to throw off balance. It is necessary not to pay attention.

there is no use to slow roll online because you cannot detect anything on how he is playing
but stay focus on every game and that you will learn what kind of play players are using

it is shocking that many people in this forum dont know what slowrolling is ...

anyway . yes it is a very bad move and in my opinion it is asking for an argument even . it is one of the rudest things you can do in poker

the only time i would slowroll someone is :

1. if he/she did it to me before

2. if the person is very unlikable and has bad manners and insults people etc

other than that slowrolling a "normal" nice player is a total no go

Not too shocking I think. There are many cardschat members who join because they are newer to poker and besides, "slowrolling" is a term which doesn't really impact playing the game (although a common term to know)

As for the two situations you would slowroll, it makes some sense, but even in those situations I don't think I would slowroll. It is human nature to fight back and get revenge, but I don't believe it is correct; two wrongs do not make a right...even if they did it first.

I do not pay attention to such things. Instead of getting nervous, it's best to focus on the game.
