Nowhere in the bible is gambling condemned. And even then, I don't see poker as gambling. Churches run bingos, that is all luck / gambling and no skill at all.

Why do I get the feeling that if sarcasm were water, this post would be flooded?

Immoral by whose standards? Are you asking because you feel an honest person would make a living by selling/creating goods and services? Poker is a zero sum game (less technically when you consider the rake?). The casinos or websites are providing a service and take their cut for it, the players aren't doing anything productive except earning money or having fun. When a poker player makes 50K in a year its not because anything useful was done for society its because he or she took the money from other people albeit in a series of voluntary contests. Is that what you mean by immoral?

If you spend your whole life playing poker, one could argue that you contributed no real value to the world, you just took money that was probably earned by someone at a job. If you happen to think you are your brother's keeper and owe some debt to society then perhaps poker is immoral. On the other hand, maybe you just want to play a game and have all these self righteous idealists leave you alone :p It should be up to you to decide, I'm sure most people here would agree with me when I say it is not immoral

I wouldn't consider it a "critical issue" by any means. To me, life is a gamble. Every decision you make can ultimately help or hurt you. For example, you gamble your money on putting your kid through college in hopes he can get out and make a good future for him/her self but you can't be certain things will work out

I dont know how anyone would consider betting as immoral. It depends on your level of morality and Id still only say 5% of the population would agree its immoral if that!

Funny thing... I drove up to a casino in West Virginia and got there early sunday morning. I was buying in for a Cash hold em table when I noticed a tournament at 1:00. I asked the cashier if I should go ahead and buy in for the tourney. She said that was a good idea because the lines could get pretty long once the church crowd got there. A little after 12 and she was exactly right.

Not at all, no more than the bingo games at your local church, the lottery in your state or country or even a game of monopoly with your family.

Morality is relative and therefore it's impossible to answer this question.

TBH, this question is immoral (jk).
I don't think playing poker is immoral unless you steal or kill to support your poker.
You have to remember that moral values(IMO) are those set forth by the bible in the ten comandments, thou shall not steal, and thou shall not kill.
If you are not breaking those laws when playing poker then you are not commiting anything immoral.
IMO, all moral standards are writtten in the bible, if this makes any sense.
