Split pot call?

I'm sure we've all seen these hands play out a number of times. Board is for example 6,7,8,9,A - If sole opponent goes all-in, do you call if you've got a 10 in your hand bearing in mind your more than likely only going to split pot (and of course you could run into 10 J!). What does everyone else think?

Really depends on how much I have invested in the pot - as the 10-J is always a serious possibility. It's just like those hands with a flush on the board and somebody bets big - do they have a big card of the board suit or are they buying. This is always a tough call, really depends on the game and who's playing...

been done so many times on that hand and it would depend on my stack if in tournament play.trouble is i see alot of people bluffing at those types of hands and i always take the risk .

A flush is different - you're either going to win to a lower one or lose to a higher one. I'm talking about hands where the likeliest outcome is going to be the return of half of the pot. Do you call with your whole stack when the return is half of the pot? If you've got the 2 overcards and go all-in, getting called is probably the funniest thing in poker, but you also see people going all-in with the bottom end of the straight (or 2 pair, top pair etc).

Being that this is all the info we have I am assuming that 678 were called 9 was called and when the ace came he went allin at this point I am thinking maybe he holding Ax or even A10, you holding a 10 I say call and at least split, but what the hell do I know LOL

I always would call as too many players at tables I play are trying to steal

Not necessarily is a flush different. I have split many pots when nobody in the hand even has a hole card of that suit. Someone almost always represents one though. Having the low end of a str8 draw is the most sickening call in poker, you almost have to and you can generally assume someone has the high side...

Probably me too - i'm surprised how many times you do call, and you win outright.

LooooL , this is a play i ALWAYS make when i feel there is going to be a split. Be first and bet hard, youd be suprised when you actually have the best of it, or your opponent folds. Funny one last week in a live game, the board was something like 333K3, and i had the ace so i just went all-in. My opponent folded the other ace in play. Why ? Not really sure, but it got a good laugh from the table.

I read in one of my poker magazine ages ago about someone who called an all-in with a KKKK2 board, when they held - wait for it....... a pair of 3's!!!!

If I'm on the high end of the strait I would have to call even in a split. If this was a poll, it would be a landslide. Good thread Rob.

Of course I would call. Yes, they could have J/10, but most likely trying to take down the pot. It's like saying, "Eh, that's Ok, I could get my chips back, but...oh--you go ahead!"

For me, i would look at the amount that "I" had invested in the pot and then made my mind up from there. many factors come into it, but i guess i would call.

(And then have that feeling of somebody pulling your heart out as they turned over 10,J *L*)

Tell me where i can go to play players who would even consider doing a thing like that, AND FIVE PLAYERS TO THE RIVER. Its like a mine field with a cash cow of a lifetime in it. LOL

Your right on this one. Its funny how many people will outright bluff with nothing when a board shows something like this. If you have the best possible hand- you have to call. BUT if you have the second best possible hand- you kinda have to call also, even if there is ONE combination of cards that can beat you. You will win more often than naught- OR SO SAY THE STATISTICS> dum dum dum
