Stu Ungar.... did they just defrost you?:ROFLMAO: You can't compare Tournament winnings from the 70s/80s to them today.
Poker is way more accepted in society than ever before, the WSOP has thousands of entries every year.
in the 80s not even 100!!!! people joined the fun. way easier to win that way...
LOL and what ME winner past Mortensen was nothing but a one hit wonder or a holdem specialists that only won something like a $1500 tourns? lol

Stu was a high stakes cash game and also had great success as a tourn player at the highest levels for DECADES.

And he won not only in the 80s but in 1997 with a caved in nose from drug abuse and definitely not the sharpest he ever played and was still able to beat the entrants. And that was on his last leg.

And don't forget the winners of those ME tourns right after Stu: Nguyen, Ferguson, Furlong (who was really a businessman and not a pro) and Mortensen who went on to do "OK" lol during the poker boom.

So Stu was familiar with those types of players at the end of his life. It wasn't anything new. So again, if he made it to the Poker Boom then he would have had really good success.

Thats one of the worst parts of Stu's story, that he missed the Boom by only a few years.
