Taking time off

After getting bad beats left and right, my luck seems like it never changes....I took literaly 3 months off from poker (no online, no live, or w friends) because I burnt a hole in my wallet during those last showings....When I got the itch to play again....luck did not change and still got beat on....

Does anyone have any suggestions on how long should I take off or does anyone have a remedy for trying to get out of bad beats...I usually play $10-$20 live. Please help me.:afraid:

You play 10/20 limit live? Honestly it depends on your style of play and the looseness of the games you are playing. I usually will take a few days off when I notice my starting hand requirements loosen up you know when 10,8 suited looks like its worth playing! Anyways Nowadays I am quite sure the live games at 10/20 have loosened up tremendously where couple years ago you find a game at those stakes you could be reasonably sure the players knew what they were doing. Down time from poker should be used to learn, I personally read everything Skalansky writes! I almost always play the best for the first couple days after a break why? not entirely sure probably a focus thing. If you are "in the gutter" I call it, basically that is when you expect to lose, absolutely take a break and try to relax. Only quick tip is if the games you are playing are on the loose side say average 3-4 players after the flop don't be afraid to jump off big pairs and wait for pretty much the nuts to call or raise the hand down, remember the bets you save are just as important as the ones you win in Limit play. Whenever I get bad beats and decide to lay off for a while. I usually play online with play money to try out new stragedies or just work on your own. That way you are still playing but not losing any money and you could get better. I also watch professional poker on tv for pointers.

Just relax for a hand or two...go get a drink of water, walk around, bad beats are part of it...if you are getting the bad beats, it will normally come back around as that means you are starting with the strongest hand...

First I take a week off then I play a different game. I either play for less or I will play a limit game or I sometimes I even play omaha for a while then I try my luck again at my fav. It usually works I do remember though I took off two months from playing cards then I just messed around playing with play money then played a $25 tourny and took 1st.

Getting a bad beat isnt just luck. a lot of the time it is the way you play the hand. most times if u have the best hand you tend to slow play. this is generally when bad beats happen. my suggestion is to better hands stronger with a bigger bet instead of limping with a smaller bet. if they call the bigger bets then i suggest reaching over the table and punching them in the nards.hope that helps

oh yeah and playing at a limit table will piss you off even more. the people can call with just a pair and make a better hand later on the board, you basically cant get them out of the hand. its happened to me

Just to add on to my bad beats are "slumps". Everybody knows what it is. I consider myself as a tight player, for the most part. I;ve sat down on a table and played 2 hands in 2 and a half hours. That;s including my blinds. Sometimes it seems like my 15 outer looks so far especially when someone hit there gut shot. That's when I usually take time off. The question is how long?

After a bad beating I usually take a few days off and play lots of play money games and sometimes getting good hands in play translates into some good real games after thats what I do.

Just long enough till you stop waking up in the middle of the night sccreaming RUNNER RUNNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! However long it takes to get your head right, for me couple days is usually plenty. Just last night a guy hit runner runner on me and it cost me over 100 bucks and I had to walk after the next hand because I was so mad... Today I am fine.. Just depends on you bro, as soon as you are calm and your confidence is back jump back in.

Try playing live tournaments, it will help.
