Is talent required to play poker? Or can you study all the material and feel free to sit down at the table?

Talent is essential to "winning" at poker. Anybody can "play".

Can talent be learned/developed? I think so.

I am convinced that in addition to knowledge, talent is needed in any business.

Talent definitely helps but isn't really required to be successful at the poker tables - especially online, hard work and knowledge of the game is enough to sit down and make your opponents work hard to get your chips... There's a really good poker course on this site and also many threads opened by successful pros that can help you get a better idea of the game, GLGL!

You don't need any talent at all to play poker, but if you don't have any, you won't get far.

If you're thinking that luck is the only thing that drives poker, you'd better try something else.

The top players in the world, are always the top players in the world. Without talent, they would not be there.

All of us have talent, but you have to understand it, and learn how to use, and nurture it.

This goes with any activity, including navigating your way through life.

Talent is good for starting, consistence will bring you further. Without studying, you may win once in a while, but that's pure luck.

All dedication and study comes down to talent, with focus and discipline you also get there and become a big winner. All this mainly having your emotional control adjusted which counts a lot.

Define talent. Live poker is the ultimate multi-tasking job. If you can do math in your head, keep track of who did what and when, all while not giving any tells away then that is talent. Also, if you can fight off being bored and start playing trash after you go hours without a decent starting hand(think my cards don't add up to 9) then talent is needed to succeed. For non live poker, playing 4-6 tables at once and juggle all of that(you can still give away tells online) then that is talent. I can do two tables pretty well. Any more than that I start playing like a moron.

I don't think it needs talent, for me it needs strategy.

Better to be born lucky than rich. The same applies for poker.

It seems to me that luck and knowledge of mathematics leads to victories in this game.

Of course, natural talent or genius helps.

But skill can be learned, so no, talent is not necessary.

To play does not require talent, but if you want to be a successful player you must make an effort to study

I would say not talent is needed, but certain abilities and skills, for example, the ability to put pressure on opponents or patiently wait for an opportunity and a good hand:cool:

To Win

Anyone can play poker, with or without "talent"

But to win consistently, requires a great deal of
study, practice, self-discipline, and yes, talent

Natural ability to analyze the table and make playing decisions
greatly helps when it comes to getting to the final table and then to the win

but, just to play the game -- doesn't take any talent at all

Talent is a relative concept. It all depends on you and your desire to achieve the goal. Hard daily work, perseverance, patience and discipline are what shape a successful player. In other words, your talent is in your hands.

I think that talent plays a small role in poker. Skill is required to be successful
