I play poker only online, so I never pay attention to the conversations of players during the game. This is absolutely unimportant for me. I think it is better to focus on their goals.

I usually do not convert by chat, I think the concentration is lost ...... although if I win a good hand it is no longer funny to post something to destabilize your opponent

ignition's chat was so cancerous right before they changed it to fixed only chat commands. I personally like when there is a little chat but not in the antagonizing needle form

I do not mind chat at table unless:

You disrespectful to me - They call you all sort of things I deal with them in my own way. Especially the Russians ( Not CC members) they like to say your family members will get cancer among other dirty things.

You are talking about what you had in the hand and the hand still going on - You would be surprised this happen to me often on CC games

You are talking stupidity or just plain annoying - e.g. there is/used to be a certain person on CC ACR game talking one set of garbage to himself.

I remember him, id know his screen name if I saw it but can't remember it off top of my head.

Never. I play online and most of the time I am already studying or doing some other kind of work. I never look at the chat screen. Whenever I play live I don't mind at all.

In online poker I do not use chat during the game. The conversation in chat on one table distracts, but on two or more tables - even more distracting.

In live poker I enjoy talking with the player to my right. I like the conversation and it makes him a little gun shy to play into me. Just my experience. Online is a different story, most of the chat is purely Sick. Players say whatever they want with no repercussions from the house or other players. I generally don't chat and only do if I detect the initiator is a decent person.

Chatting - Live or Online

The question does not specify live vs online chatting. For me there is a big difference.
In live games there are two situations for me - my weekly game with friends, and the infrequent casino card room game.
My friends and I always chat about all kinds of things, mostly sports, a little news, a little family, and far too much about what is going on in the current hand. But, it is a friendly, easy-going game, so nobody gets upset or stops others from talking about the hand in play.
In live casino games I will greet new players sitting down beside me and welcome them to the table. Sometimes there are small discussions at different ends of the table, and the occasional table-wide talk. I am playing to win, but not taking it too seriously, so the chatter does not bother me.
In Online games I generally do not bother chatting. Everyone is a stranger, just an avatar, and not there to be friends.

A guy i used to pay with a lot in daytona beach, we would talk constantly to each other. we did it because a lot of the player got annoyed by it. they would then be hyper aggressive and likely to call us when we had the nuts. i know that was kind of mean but once you find a weakness you need to exploit it.

online it’s mainly nh, gg, nice move. Live poker if I’m folded and the person next to me is and they try to engage me I’ll talk to them but never if one of us is in a hand.

Sometimes, it depends, I hate it when (just cause you play poker) that youre a golf pro and a football know it all. I just find myself like a deer in the headlights when people start babbling off sports to me.
