I have several motivations... the first is that this game of poker fascinates me... the second is to try to succeed in poker... it is true that it is not easy and I have had very bad days in which I have I wanted to never play again... but after going through those difficult moments, the passion returns and I just try to get over it... learn from my mistakes and keep trying to improve

Interesting thread to read through, as I have been struggling lately to find motivation to play.

Originally, decade ago, it was money. Then, 4 years ago as I returned to poker, it was just to fill the spare time and learn more about the game I quit.
Now, I do not know. Habit in a way.

It's a Hobby. I enjoy it. The competition as I'm competitive by nature. Basketball, football, hockey and boxing when I was younger and in high school. The bit of extra money I make each year is a little bonus. Not many people can say they have a hobby they make money at. A lot of people spend decent to a lot of money on their hobby/hobbies.

Besides mostly keeps me outta trouble

(which at 50 is agood thing) unlike shooting pool/8-ball/9-ball back in the day. Poker players aren't near as tough.

I have a few.

I like the challenge. Every poker hand is a puzzle, and I enjoy trying to solve it.
I'm a competitive person. I enjoy outplaying other players.
Getting money for doing well at a game is pretty awesome. Paying money to play a game is not so bad.

There's probably more I can't think of.

Motivation is good but I think discipline, consistency, and hard work is more important, we are not always motivated but w still have to do it anyways right? but I'm am motivated to succeed in poker.

In my case my motivation is the personal results, and the improvement day by day in my game.
In these last 6 months I have learned a lot by watching and watching gameplay videos, that is my choice.

Motivation in poker or in the life?

Let's focus just on poker

My motivation was to play once on the wsop... but it faded away

I'm not good enough and I don't have the time to improve my skills.

I think who play just because of money... it's a very wrong way. To play poker is challenging, and it isn't the easiest way to earn secure income. So, who plays just for money, not for the beauty of the game, is on the wrong path.

And what’s my motivation now? Just to relax and spend meaningful time at the tables 😊
