Is there such a thing as too much poker?

Is there such a thing as playing too much poker? Do you guys have a schedule that you set for yourselves?

Of course. Too much of anything is not good.

I don't set a schedule as such but I work, have a family and other responsibilities which act as decent buffers between poker sessions.

I also stop playing when tired or feeling signs of tilt.

I experienced it . There is a time when i played poker for 16 hours a day , and other 8 hours what i do ? I sleep but even in sleep there are cards in my dreams , You knowthats soo bad to even think abt it now . Then i changed a bit

And started meditation , styed calm , not to play excess

Now i good

Dont play too much , its not good for health & mind

I play better when i've missed the game and been away a while.

In general I play better the more money thats involved as I really, really focus on the strategy and have alot of faith the opponant knows what he's doing.

If I'm grinding micro tables full of bad play I switch off a bit and lose motivation and just assume they are donking which is very very bad. lol. but you know... cant help it after a long grueling week I start going through the motions.

Of course it is. If play too much poker you are starting to make mistakes . For me 6-8 hours is limit per day. After i play them i become tired and starting to make stupid mistakes, and because of them loose many money

I have experienced poker burn out ,not sure how some can grind 12 hours or more a day. Fortunately I do not rely on poker as my only income. Taking breaks keeps the mind fresh and keeps me motivated .I guess it's like anything if you do it to excess then some of the enjoyment is lost......scorp

Yeah, I am unsure how people grind for that long. Maybe a lot of red bull???? LOL. I have tried it.... and it rarely ends well. I have found that I max out around 7/8 hours for concentration and thats if I am on a good run. Otherwise, I can only last a few hours before I start either getting bored or frustrated.

I enjoy poker quite a bit. The hours fly by when I am playing.

I quit when I get too tired, if I am playing bad, or if everyone on the table is better than I am.

lol yeah.. too me too. even in class when I'm falling asleep I can't seem to dream about something else (this might be too much poker). Same thing happens when I get a little Call of duty addiction every once in a while start shooting people in my dreams

I have a job that only allows me to play at certain times during the day. However on my days off I play for 12-14 hours. How you feel when you are playing should determine how long your sessions last. AS far as poker dreams I dont think I have ever had those.

It's important to have a life outside of poker. If you have some other hobbies that get you outside and more active you'll think more clearly at the table. Being in good shape helps the brain too, not just the body. Also, it'll just lead to a more satisfying life.

In my opinion, anything making you happy which isn't, in the same time, bothering others is good way to spend time. So, when you like playing poker, then do it as long as you like I guess. Of course enough is enough and everyone should have reasonable limits and some other thing to do.

I know I can play too much. I begin to despise the game sometimes when I do. But the cards never change, only me.

Also if I am not exhausted after a poker session then I haven't tried hard enough. Often my motivation in tournaments is lasting until the breaks.

I find I outlast opponents whose aim is to be chip leader, or just get to the bubble, because whether there is 1, or 1,000 opponents left, I am still mentally and physically committed for lasting the next hour.

it is too much when you start buying in more than you can afford to loose each day or when you become obsessed to not be able to focus on your other day to day work including family

Hmmmmm, I saw the exact same question asked at another forum, I believe it all depends on whether or not you can handle it. It's completely relevant to your situation. What is too much for one may not be for another.

I stop when I am tired/getting distracted/or losing concentration.

If you have good tilt control there is no logical reason to stop after a series of bad beats. Nor is there any reason to stop after a run of wins to "bank a profit" poker is one long session separated by sleeping and eating etc.
