Please how can I manage my anger due to a bad beat ?
I am playing and when this sh... happens I start to lose my good stack .

If you have a problem with anger from a beat, you should just take a break from the table until you are settled down. Go grab a bite to eat or have a soothing non-alcoholic beverage like a herbal tea or go meditate in a quiet place. Anger will always make you a loser in all areas of life.

yes i agree you need to walk away till you calm down , remember that patience is #1 rule and bad beats will always happen soo just your head up and keep at it , better play will always prevail in the end.

I agree also with this--
if you can't handle yourself take a break and come back. Hopefully you can gather yourself and do better when you return---

How long have you been playing? in time, the beats get easier because you see them more often..

but their never fun

Man I saw a guy go on tilt after loosing half his stack and he still was in the top 5 out of 20 in chips and pushed them all in the next hand.

OP:
If you want to be a profitable player, you will have to learn to recognize tilt, and take the appropriate steps to minimize the effect it has on your game. Whether this means walking away, doing yoga, "taking a toke", whatever....

It is very important as a poker player to be able to manage your emotions. Good players put their emotions aside, and make the correct play.

Lmao. That's ALWAYS a good way to calm down.

On a more serious note though, if you go on tilt due to a bad beat, just take a break from playing poker for a little bit...be it an hour or a day or whatever it takes to get you to calm down. Just don't play while tilted. Never a good thing.

Take a break ... If you can't stay away just spend time on studying poker or analysing your game... Even observe tables and watch some regs play, you might learn some tendencies you or they might be doing and exploit.

lol.. It seems so easy and logical to say, "just walk away for awhile, calm down, do yoga, drink tea..etc". But there you are on a good table, playing well, having a good time and a good session until wham... 15 years to grow a tree, 15 minutes to cut it down. Then you look at that and see how you got coolered. You know you've been playing better than the others and can continue to do so. Can you all really get up that easily under such circumstances?

Absolutely, especially if I was so far ahead of another player and made the right move, and get sucked out on deep etc?....Of course I can. However, I also have the ability to realize that I made the correct play, did what I was supposed to, and that the same player will likely make the same mistake again. Therefore, I normally choose to wait it out and try to get in a situation like that again with hopefully, the same idiot who just sucked out on me....they can't suck out everytime....

One strategy is to play only in ring games (so you can quit if you go on tilt), then if you take a bad beat, leave the table, because almost certainly the bad beat will tilt you and you will start gambling

As soon as I can get out of my chair for a few minutes I do twenty pushups every time I start to tilt. I hate doing them, so they were good for breaking another bad habit I used to have. Hope it will work for this, too. If not, oh well, maybe I'll at least get some definition out of it.

Actually I get completely the same! I try not to go on tilt but it is impossible! Once lost all try to get to play in the play or be with my friends or my girlfriend, something to forget the bad times but it is very difficult!

If I am tilted, yes I will take a walk.

However, I don't tilt easily. I can usually take a bad beat, and continue to play well.

But sometimes we all get tilted. And sometimes, we don't even recognize that we are playing bad until after the fact. That is the worst thing.

They call it "steaming" because you will actually feel hot. It feels like there is pressure in your head or something, trying to get out. If you ever find yourself feeling that way, I think it is time for a break. Many bankrolls have been decimated by tilt - don't let that happen to you.

Oddly enough, I go on worse tilt when I make an inaccurate or poor play than when I get my money in at the right spot and lose to a suck-out/underdog. For example, the other day I got my money in on the flop with AK after hitting an Ace, someone called with AJo, caught a runner-runner flush, and felted me. I went on tilt for about 40 seconds before returning to my solid, focused game. The next session I made a poor read and tried a 3-bet bluff that failed and went on tilt for the rest of the session.

I am a competitive person by nature, so I think deep down I would rather outplay everyone and get felted than make poor reads and suck out for a lot of money.

I'm the same way. My mistakes aggravate me more than running bad, and I think it used to be the other way around. I think that is a good sign, right?

Taking a break until you calm down is kind of a band-aid solution. It's certainly better than doing nothing, but what would be even better is to improve your self-discipline so that it takes more to get you on tilt and/or you don't tilt as badly as you do now, preferably both. Unfortunately, this is much harder.

The way to really fix the problem is to discipline yourself and understand that at the end of the night, you are still gambling. Bad Beats happen out of pure luck, usually no skill is involved in a bad beat.

KK vs AA and KKA come on the board. AA goes all in and you lose to an Ace on the river. If you went all in before the river there is nothing you could have done to avoid it.

The way I look at it now is understanding that I did everything right. I had Quads on the flop and a guy pushes me all in, even if I lose, I know that I did everything right and going into the fight, I was winning. You lost the hand, but not from lack of skill.
