Tourneys or cash games? Generally speaking?

I prefer tournaments I'm alright at cash always make a profit, annoying when you loose a big pot though, always puts me on tilt, if I lose a big pot i.e AA losing to other pockets or someone calling on top pair and getting trips..

Sickest shit I saw ever the other day, uber donk at the table kept reloading, 3 people went all in him included, one had AA one had QQ and he had KQ..

Flop went like this K4KAK.. so ****en sick. 50 dollar pot.

I love MTTs and I do much better in them than I do in SNGs or cash games. If I do play SNGs or cash it is almost always a game other than hold em.

I think it all depends how quick you want to lose your bankroll,

SnG if you want it to go quick and cash if you want it to go quicker.

I like tournaments for the challenge and the chance to maybe make a big score. I play cash games to make more money at my pace of play.

This are my thoughts ...

I generally prefer to play cash games .. but you have alot more to lose if you are not carefull (you need a pritty good BR)

Tourneys are tought with alot of donkeys and you could end up loosing with AA.

I personally mix them up xD

When i lose some $ at a table .. i switch to tourney mode and try there .. if it not working out i usually take a brake ^_^

I play MTTs because I'm stupid.

Seriously speaking, I find the competition on MTTs (when I'm not tilting) to be more enjoyable than cash.

I like cash games for this. Easy in, easy out, easy break. And with the games I prefer (Limit & PL O8), I run into the same players all the time (unlike NLHE which most prefer). I simply do not understand the attraction of MTTs. I'm guessing that MTTs are for folk that really have a system down regarding stealing from the late positions or relation to stack sizes. I've had the Harrington tourney books for a year and sill haven't read them. I just find cash games as far less complicated. And the same simplicity is probably what draws me to limit games, particularly Omaha H/L. You're playing more the cards themselves rather than other elements that I feel less comfortable with exploiting.

Then why play MTTs at all? Are they THAT much more enjoyable?

they both have there place.. sng tournys and cash tables are pretty much the same as far as the steady income... the mtt is where you win the big bucks but it doesnt come in at al steady pace its more of a rollercoaster ride

Let me add this question then to the discussion... Does it makes sense to say the person with limited tmie to poker would be better served playing MTT's and just using cash and small SnG's to support his MTT tourneys?

I work 40 plus hours a week and have two active kids. On a good week I might get in 10 hours of poker. Im not comfortable Multi-tabeling more than 2 tables so Im never going to put in the huge number of hands that players like LeatherAss do to grind there Profit.

I just wonder if time wouldnt be better spent in these MTT's looking for a bigger score and then building on that. I dont mean MTT's solely. If you do that then I feel youre just on a rollercoaster. But if you can use the Small cash games and SnG's to support your MTT's I think you'd have a better chance of running up your bankroll.

Thoughts?

Elaborate a little more on you opinion please.

Mtt's take several hours if you are going to go deep to win any good money.
Where as cash you can grind it/or bust it faster.
Take a look at some of the screen shots of the Mtt's ppl go deep or win in, it is usually 5+hrs, unless of course you do the rush ones...

I cant grasp this either which makes me think that playing live and online are two differently game entirely. I understand the number of hands online is so much more that you sell more crazy stuff happen but the action is always geared so high online that I wouldnt even think of getting to deep betting on 2nd best pair whereas at my card room, 2nd best pair can really win you some money and its just like night and day for me too and Im sure people can read me like a book live since Im always a little nervous until I settle down but can still win hands nicely in this state so if I hit $2/$5 dollar tables live, At worse I lose a little but usually make profit. Online its like I cant crush anything lowest level s SNGs, MTT's, I can make some money off ring games but so far I have only provent his at the .05/.10 level. SO there is something weather it be that cards arent set in stone once betting begins online which I find real distrubing since live poker youre not reshuffling the deck constantly while betting is going on. I do not understand why online poker does not want to emulate real poker and the main difference I see is the fact live the cards are shuffled and set in stone and online they are spinning non stop until its time for the cards to show up. Im not a conspiracy person but the fact that the cards are always shuffling once pocket cards are delt make live games and online games 2 different worlds (I know many people will slam this statement but there is no way to every know if they are spinning at the same speed, if they stop somewhere, if someone stalling makes the spinning stop, I just dont get why once pockets the cards are set in stone. WOuld it make a difference, I personally think so, I do know at my card room I have never seen all high outs in one hand you know one dude has AK one has KK one has AA. And at my card room I dont get delt AK or AA or KK as much as I do online. Live it so rare to get QQ or better pockets but online its like not once every (what is it 212x) it sems more like once every 30 hands or more youre getting high end pockets.

Exactly. You have control of when you start and finish

I understand this. Im just saying i think you can run a bankroll up quicker with the MTT's than you can at Cash. Given say 10 hrs a week and a banroll that in cash would be probably right for 0.05/0.10.

The weeknights are the time it's hard for me to devote to poker. Usually no more than an hour or so but on the weekend I can usually put in the time if i finish high at a MTT.

I'm a much better tourney player than cash player. I think my biggest problem is I don't scout my opponents enough before I sit down at a cash table.

enjoy cash games more than tournies because im actully playin with reallmoney in front ov me rather than comp chips ,,,i get much bettin buzz on the cash tabs

Depends on my bankroll if I wana cash in fast its cash and if I'm sitting nice Ill try a MTT

I like the tourneys but the small tourneys.. See there are ones you can play with 7500 or ones you can play with only 9 or 72 etc.. I can see your point on the cash games but if you enter a freeroll and you didnt pay any money to enter and then you end up being in one of the winning spots it feels like a double victory beacause you didnt even pay to enter but you won money

Safely? Hmm... not so sure about that one. DoN's are known (and has been shown) to be very popular by colluders. The thing is, even when the HH's go under investigation there are alot of spots where what would normally be a terrible & unusual fold in a typical SNG... might be ok... in a DoN (stack preservation, ICM-based due to flat payout).

I've heard that even the $10 DoN's have been infiltrated by mass colluders... so who's to say that even the micro ones aren't too?
Just a bit of a derail but I don't think DoN's are the way to go these days... not for my time & money anyways. Besides... I'm a tourney Icon so why would I want to?

I usually play in tourney's, i don't know why but it seems that i can play better in tourneys

like somebody said up there i like tourneys with max 50-100 players because i can barely say that my concentration is gone after 2 hours

My tourney graph goes up, my ring game goes down. More MTTs please...
