Just a note of interest, on the way cyber communications and collusion are heading in online poker: At 888, on the webcam tables, it is common to see several people observing and commenting on their buddy's play whilst they party online, or parents leaving their kids to play while they go get a beer, people leaning over to talk to their buddy off-camera before acting, or people mooning the table for that matter.

There is little or no monitoring or moderating at these tables most of the time, in my experience. It is the Wild West online...

Controlling abusive text chat is easy. Controlling a bunch of tables with webcams and parties on them is not so...

To my mind all the cameras do is expose what is really going on all the time all over the place. Except the mooning.

That's what's great about webcam tables... when you can see what you're up against, that's just more information on how to play or whether to play.

Very true... and people give away a ton of information as they forget about the camera...

Bit of a dogleg to the OP question, but part of the overall equation re policy, regulation and enforceability online...

I can't believe we are talking about cheating. Look at it this way, how would you like it if everytime you sat down at a table you had to wonder if you were playing a team or playing each individual person. I don't know how you could even question this, some of us don't have money just to donate, we are all here for the same purpose, to socialize, play the game, improve our game, start a living, continue to live and realize a dream no matter or small or large.

Remember this Cheaters never win in the Long run, ask FTP.

Frankly I don't see how it makes an iota of difference whether I'm playing against an individual, or a team, or a computer for that matter (computers aren't as advanced at poker as they are at chess -- once they improve I'd rather not). A lot of comment seems to assume that two or three heads are better than one at poker. I think that's highly debatable. A team is just as likely to be a muddle as it is to be effective. Advice is just as good as the advisor X the situation and will lead to defeat a good deal of the time.

It is against the rules. I know stars specifically has it written in the TOS but i don't know how they can ever enforce it.

Early this year in the sunday million many accused a player for this rule violation. It was said when they got down to 3 tables the player in question went from playing like a donk to making all the right moves.
He was known to be a member of some other forum so people assumed (probably rightfully) that he got one of his buddy's to give him advice on each hand.
He went on to take 2nd place. I didn't follow up on the thread so i don't know how stars handled it.

Yes it is a form of cheating during the hand. After the hand is played, thats when you console your group as to how you should have played the hand or get input on where you went wrong playing that hand. If you don't think its a form of cheating, you should be banned from all online poker sites period!

lol like the webcam thingy I don't play on webcam because aspergers and avoid casinos because cannot pick up on tells or stop myself giving them so webcam seems silly. I like the idea of playing someone at 5/10c blinds nl and phil ivey and tom dwan leaning over a guy and explaining what to do. it would never happen but would be hilerious if it did. ud be like watching and like wtf.

i think it depends on the sitatuion if they are on the same table as you then yes thats pretty bad if there not and its just saying what they think then well thats a bit debatable.

personally i think its pretty simple really. if your not playing significant enough stakes to make a living from the game then anyone helping you is unlikely to be a pro and there comments may or may not be great.

if your playing enough to make a living your either multi tabling at which point discussing certain hands whilst in play becomes impractical or your playing reasonably high stakes at which point the standard is high and anyone qualified to give you advice there would probably rather be playing themselves for there own share then giving you free advice. its a nonsense irrelevant issue.

the only real concerns are collusion or I have played that guy before and he is weak here and here etc.

OP point is there is no way of telling 99% of the time, so how can anyone enforce the rules? Sometimes it can be proven and has been, but on the whole it is everywhere online and there is nothing anyone can do about it.

Whether you think it is unethical, immoral, against TOS, or OK, it is here.

There's been documented cases of where guys will have a team of players playing in MTT's & once any of the horses get deep in an MTT, they're paid a pre-determined sum of cash & the tournament is then handed over to another player (obv. more experienced player). So I'd have to say it's NOT a 'nonsense irrelevant issue'.

Actually it isn't just an 'assumption so far'. There's been documented cases (read my post above) where 'after the fact' guilty parties even openly admitted that they were doing this, claiming 'ignorance' at the time. They even advertised it.
(google search MaxKatz (well-known russian backer) & get out your google translator & check out some of the Russian poker forums. You might be in for a surprise!)
I'm sure there's been many like this (could also try searching out Sorel Mizzi as there's documentation of AIM chat where he's attempting to make plans with other players in attempt to set up a ring of this nature).

How about this since we are reaching back a century for our rules in the internet age: You are not allowed to play in the nude. I'm sure it's not allowed at Harrahs. It's too distracting. Even if I can't see you, it's too distracting to think that you might be playing in the nude. Therefore Stars should add a nudity restriction to its TOS and get all to sign it.
