Weak Ace

I feel like I'm getting delt a lot of weak aces lately and I'm not sure how to play them pre-flop or even if I hit the ace on the flop with a bad kicker. How do you guys play the weak ace pre/post flop?

play them in late position. if you miss the flop fire out a c-bet and if you hit and face heacy resistance fold it your probably up against a higher ace.

Position is important when playing weak hands. PreFlop limp in and then if you hit check if not then just send out a 2-3BB bet to see where you are.
He might just fold or re-raise you.

I prefer to fold them -- maybe play the sooted ones if there are a few players in and the players to act after you aren't too frisky...

I feel compelled to open with A-8 from the button or cutoff, but I don't usually feel very good about it!

if u playin week a ,,ie early,,mid ,,anhd 5 out then u got a big leak in your game,,,be strong enough in early posish to muk ie a2 a3 a4 etc,,,there muggs hands and fish gett marriered to them,,,pik on the fish dont be 1

Don't listen to the advice of rigged above PLEASE. I'm folding most of these hands but in late position against the right opponent, I'm raising. I'm NEVER limping in late posish. What are you going to do with A8 when the board comes A 6 2 and you've just let BB flop 2 pair? And by right opponent, I mean your nitty players who are tight passive, usually folding pre and usually folding when you c bet on the flop when they miss. Basically be happy to take the pot pre and if you don't you still have a decent hand in position. This us key because you have the pot control. You don't want to get in a big pot with Top Pair Weak Kicker so the position is important to let you have that control.

Johnboy pretty much said it. How (IF!) you play a weak A depends on a number of things. EP-MP low blind stage toss it. LP will depend on the table. Tight blinds? Take a stab at stealing. TP limper and tight blinds? Same thing. If you get callers you have to read the board and make your decision. If the blinds are calling stations, and the flop misses you but is scary, you are done putting money in. If an A comes, make your c bet. If a totally UC flop comes, maybe cbet. But all this is opponent specific. Its not easy to play these hands post flop unless you totally hit - A6, flop AA6 or even x 6 6 or AAx, (and this can be unnerving since you raised and were called, especially in a multiway pot). Unless you are really confident in your post flop playing ability and ability to read the flop and opponents, these hands are best avoided, especially larger tables, smaller blind levels. High blinds and short handed? Now that is a different story, but lets tell it in another thread.

I only open/raise with A7 or better. I hate being in the type of position your talking about so I just avoid it all together.

I agree position is number one when talking about weak aces. Secondly, if I'm only 3 or 4 handed, I will almost always play an Ace. Generally, though, I just fold them as I tend to get in trouble with them a lot. I'm usually either out kicked or someone picks up their raggedy 2 pair

It really all depends on what you're playing.

Are you talking about cash games, early, mid or late stage Sng. It really depends on the situation. I will almost always fold these hands in a cash game and also in early to mid stages of a SNG. If you routinely play these hands you'll find yourself on the losing end more often then not. It's only worth it to play these hands in Late position when you have a good read on your opponents. Other then that I stay away from them as much as I can.

In late stages of a SNG, you'll be playing any ace most of the time. Just be careful when you run into re-raises when you're sitting with A3, he may actually have Aj, AQ, AK. Just because there's only 2-3 people left don't always assume nobody else can have an ace.

Dont raise or ply with them in early to mid position because someone will probably raise you and they have a better hand than you if they are not a donkster. Usually play them in big blind only pretty much and if suited, you can play them in mid position or mid raise.

Unless I am extremely short stacked or have a good read then I never play a weak ace in early or mid position. If I am short stacked, I am pushing every chance I get.

In late position it depends on what has happened before me. I will push here if the table has not raised/re-raised and see a flop. If the flop looks good then I might give a continuation bet depending (again) on what happens in front of me. If I get a raise then I will strongly consider folding.

I have become leery of weak aces, in fact pocket aces as well. My % of winning with either of them is not good. Probably my playing but seems most of the time I get outdrawn.

Early in the game, most of the time, I let them go.

Fold, unless you have great hand reading skills and have got excellent post-flop skills. You are either going to win a small pot or lose a big one.

Hmm weak aces. Play them a lot. Aperantly AK will never win against them. so you should be on a hot streak

every time i play ak i always lose to a weaker ace. Bad varience that is placed upona bad downswing with the fact that i m super unlucky

It depends on how many is at your table and what position your in. If I have a suited Ace I have hard time folding it, bad habit.

Adding to the 'well it depends' train of thought: in a SnG at the bubble, if everyone else folds and I'm sitting on the button I'm raising with the anticipation of stealing the pot. If I get called, at least I have something that might play well HU.

Also, if I'm in a tournament with 10 BB or less and I get an Ace, it's all going in.

I personally fold most of the weak aces ( even suited)

Except the part when I'm short staked in the BB and I may be in front.
I hate weak aces because they make coin-flips really hard to win.
