i have been hitting a barrier damnit! haha my bankroll is $50 and everytime i hit $60 i lose until im back at $50 and then i climb right back to $60 and so on...i have gone up to $60 about 4 times, and now successfully have been knocked back to $50...this sucks!

Natural variance, try to enjoy it, knowing that you will probably make a big jump all at once.

I started with a $50 deposit and quickly went to $150. Bounced between $75 and $150 for a month. Then went for another month of so between $200 and $250. Currently bouncing in the $400 - $500 range with a high a month ago of @ $575. Really stinks but I beginning to think that's just the way it is meant to be. Manage your bankroll properly and you'll break the $100 barrier only to find another waiting for you.

Yeah, it seems like you hit certain "plateaus" where you seem to stay before advancing.

I started with $50 and am currently around the $100 mark where i have been once before. last load of games i played i havent moved much at all losing one and coming 3rd the next to pretty much break even and when it starts dropping i will get a 1st or 2nd to put me back to where i was. Once im over this hurdle it will be plain sailing til the $150 mark.

Just know that since there's a rake, the majority of players lose. They're just wishing they could break even.

I ran like that for nearly 2 years,. I'd get up a little, go on a down slide and lose it all, hit a couple of good results and be way up, then go on a losing streak.

Just before joining this forum, my total online BR was down under $200. Through working on improving my game, taking BR management to heart, and perseverence, mow my total online BR has grown to just over $1200, AND is somewhat self supporting, 'cause I draw out of it for poker learning materials (books, dvds, etc) and to pay for my high speed internet connection.

So, stick with it, follow proper BR management, and you'll get there. You will still have downswings, there will always be vatiance. But, learning to control and minimize the damage is all part of the big game. You're in the right place to learn how.

I am happy to make enough to pay for rake and buy into the CC events to be trounced by better players. So far, so good.

Variance in bankroll is a common theme in online poker especially b/c so many that are ona winning streak just stay up when there tired and keep playing and playing only to lose some of it back or all.Its very sage and wise to practice strong bankroll management. I apply the Chris Ferguson management style to my bankroll

ok good it sounds like i should be going through this from wat most of u r saying. i have been very strict to my bankroll management, basically the ferguson roll management, and i have added my own things in such as winning a certain percentage based on my stack in cash games i get out for a few hours and take a break so i dont lose it all back and usually i can get back in another cash game just with the previous profit. i also set a certain percent of my stack that if i lose that percent i get out and take a break so i dont tilt. basically i am 1 of those looking long term building, im yound i dont care about making tons right away haha so basically i am shooting for like $5-10 increases each day while my BR is this little. i do play pretty well i believe and build up but then hit those unlucky streaks so it is funny. actually made it up to $60 this morning again (5 times i believe now) and came back in the afternoon and got outdrawn and bad beat 3 times to drop me to $55, so im done for the day except my $1 ferguson later tonight which makes $56 really......but ya thanks to those who are making me feel like this should be the norm, and if i stick to my guns i should break out of these every once in awhile and make a jump...sure hope this happens!

When I open an account at a new site, I only ever make a small deposit, usually $30 to $50, and I never redeposit. I have several different sites where my bankroll is now well up in the hundreds, and three where it is in the thousands.

My method of growing a small sum into a large one is this: I play low buyin ring games, usually $10NL (at first). At this level, I find it fairly simple to double my buyin. Then, I use half my profit to buy into a $5 MTT.

The worst that can happen is I fail to cash in the MTT, and my BR grew by $5. I keep repeating the process until I reach a final table and achieve a big BR boost, then I move up a level and repeat the process at $25NL and $10 MTTs.

A couple more MTT successes and I`m into $50NL and $5 or $10 Rebuys.

Using this method, you can`t fail as long as you can consistently beat $10NL. The rest is all financed from the profits of that and it`s only a matter of time. Possibly a long time, if you are not strong in MTTs or if you are unlucky, but you`ll get there eventually.

I've found the low SNG's seem to be an easier way to get $$. If you just get a few hands and then play tight, you can usually wait for the donks to fall of. Especially on Bodog, they have beginer tourn's that pay 5/10 spots. If you can't make it past half a table you need to rethink the game a little . If you consistantly make it to 3+ in those, move up. I personally like the turbo games since they last about an hour, but they don't have any beginer+turbo, one or the other.

haha well damn i did it again, im officially at $50 and change...got a 3 bad beats, twas terrible. o well the fight goes on i guess, but i feel like im in a bad rut cuz n e good hand i have i have lost, so i may need to take some time off haha

You are right about that, Bodog`s beginner tourneys can be a good training ground and a good place to start building a BR.

Just a note of caution, though. Those tourneys are widely known to be very fishy and, as a result, there are a handful of more experienced players who are there on a regular basis, feeding off them. When you sit down at one, check a few of the other tables in the lobby at the same buyin, and take note of any player who is at your table and also multitabling several others.
