What is a Poker Pro

I heard and read that people say they are turning or becoming a Poker Pro. Anyone can say it.
Please tell me "What is a Poker Pro", What do you have to achieve to realistically say you are pro and not just someone with big dreams going no where. Good luck to all that try.

A poker professional is no different than any other professional in that they make there living from it.

Where most of us go to work and dream of being that good.

i meet a boy at the dog park, we talking, i say i like play poker, he say he a "poker pro"
my ears perk up, i query him all excited learn things
find out, he lives in his car, goes coffee shop for use their wifi
not all that say they poker professionals make monies at it

Exactly! I would like to add that poker is not only traveling around the world and staying in nice casinos. It's a lot of hard hard work beyond living "the dream".

Definitely, this seems to be the consensus. But, do you guys think that it matters how you get there? Other professionals (doctors, lawyers, engineers) study for years at university and must pass professional exams. A poker pro on the hand could conceivably simply be a natural who just is good enough at poker to earn a living.

Most people that call themselves poker pros don’t actually match the definition of that for most other people. For me it means that the person earns a living by playing poker. This doesn’t necessarily mean that the person makes every cent of their income directly from playing, but that they at least earn enough that they could live off just their poker income.

Very true, A poker pro can be simply a part time player with the option of playing full time. If Tom Brady only played football part time, he is still a pro.

I have my own thoughts about it.

To me, someone who earn enough money playing poker to survive, study and improve as a poker player is (or could be) a profesional.

Am I a pro?

I think in order to even start to become a professional poker player step 1 you must understand the cards all what they can do and the people who play them and all that they can do which if you think about it is infinite possibilities * infinite possibilities. my point being; if knowing all of the above and you continually don't lose and you pay your bills. Then maybe.? Good luck have fun

In my mind it is somebody who pays all of their bills (or a large majority) with their winnings in poker.

good question, in my personal opinion there are several answers to that question ... so i will go by parts.... a Milka lady to consider a Pro, every time she wins 10 dollars in a freeroll she draws and complements her income...now see the story of Stu Ungar a poker legend, the greatest Pro of all Pro in poker history, but as a friend of his said ... Stu was a big winner in poker and a loser in life, Stu won 30 million of dollars in his career and died in misery...[FONT=arial, sans-serif]

now talking about me, I can win by playing freeroll and small tournaments and sit go, between 100 to 300 dollars a month, here in Brazil with 100 dollars I can buy food for about 3 months for me, the other expenses are different source of income ... in 2017 I managed to earn 1.5k in a week, of course I was very lucky in poker and black jack ... you spoke of a dream I am pure dream ... a dream of evolving with the values I earn and I dream of evolving my mind in relation to poker ... in the meantime I play some music, do some drawings, paintings and grow some plants ... I will always be trying

Yep, as some have said it is playing poker as your profession, how you support yourself to live. This is not to be confused with pro being an expert which sometimes people use interchangeably. Obviously if you can support yourself from poker you are playing extremely well. But the latter type of definition is more related to world rankings.
