What is a ''Pro''?

In my opinion, a poker professional is a person who plays at high stakes and regularly stably wins from $ 10,000 a month or more, and also lives only on poker money.

A professional is a cut above the regular. Since a regular is a person who just plays poker very much (it can be micro-limits). A professional is a person who is constantly evolving and earning a living, for him this is really a job and a life’s work:rock:

Well some may say PRO means making a living off something,i cant argue but would also consider anyone thats put dedication into getting well above average in any field a pro.Im at the stage i feel comfortable calling myself semi-pro,but then if im playing tournaments that could be life changing and doing quite well maybe it could also be considered pro...maybe a matter of opinion to some extent.

I would say a pro is anybody who can make a living solely on poker. There isn't a minimum amount someone has to make per session/month/year in order to be considered a pro at any job they do

A professional player is the one who is formed through study and practice, one could say it is like a university student. The professional player distinguishes himself from the recreational one because of his great affinity for the game, trying to overcome himself day by day to achieve a great poker professional since he sees the game as a profession he exercises when he plays a tournament.

Very well said, Sir. In my opinion even tutoring beginners how to play poker pretty much disqualifies one from being a poker pro. A successful pro will write books and articles, but there are plenty of self entitled poker pros out there trying to recruit people to their "poker schools or academies" to teach them how to "beat the rake", and that's pretty much a red flag that their poker career is less then stellar.

Some would argue this....

I would say you are a pro if you devote the time needed to be sucessful at the game, and treat it like a busniess.... in todays game there is so much variance, even the best players in the world have losing year.... granted I also believe there needs to be a life time of documented profitable play.... to get this 1 you need to be dedicated to studying, and doing the work off the table. 2 you need to have a proven life time track record in winning, even after a very long downswing that could span a few years. And 3 which I think is the most important part of being able to call yourself a pro. I think you need to be able to make money from the poker industry, not just playing it. Because Varince is a bigger issue now then ever before, you have to know how to make money with poker not just playing it. Might that be through coaching, streaming, YouTube, social media groups, tournament directing, or promotions....

Now let's say you play alot, it consumes almost if not all your free time. Or you try and make a living off of just playing the game. You dont really study outside of just watching a few videos here and there. Or maybe you inspire to make millions off of just playing the game, but dont really put the work in off the table. These are your REGs, they can be good, they can be terrible....

Then you have your REC players, who will show up to a casino not knowing much more then the basics. They really dont care if they win or lose, they just want to have some fun. They might as well put thier money into a slot machine, cause chances are they are just trying to get lucky....

In my humble opinion ... a person can be called a "Professional Poker Player" when this player is dedicated full time to poker ... and most importantly when this player generates enough earnings to live and pay all his expenses. ..!

We can call a pro a very experienced player, because really a pro, with poker as a job it is difficult to accept it. It is the factor of luck which even it is not the most critical, it is one of the main factors.

I only know what PRO means as to the other REWG and recreational player i honestly have no clue.

Me and my friends used to considder someone PRO when they had poker as there only ockupation and could pay there bills as well as live from it. Depending on your living standards the amount you earned doesn't mean a specific value just that you can live from what you earn.
