What kind of hand do you choose?

Ok. Let's ay you've having a cold streak of horrible starting hands and you're stack is starting to get low due to the blinds increasing. You need to do something soon. What kind of hand do you choose to make a move or see a flop with?

For me it's more of what position I'm in rather than the starting cards. Any 2 cards look better when I'm on the button...

Like Irish said about position, seems the most important. sometimes when i'm on the button or at the cutoff i'll push any two cards. Depending on chip size ect..i'd pick just about any ace, k-9 or suited or unsuited connectors 7/8 or better and just move in..hope to pick up the blinds or get lucky. Sometimes we have to move in knowing we might be or are behind.

Exactly why I dislike tournaments.
In real money games there is never a way to justify getting your money in with the worst hand,and no odds to draw(real or implied)...but hope to get lucky.

When pushing all in you want to be OUT of position, just for the record. All in eliminates position for the rest of the hand. By being out of position you gain fold equity. Why elimiate position when you are on the button, and have position. If you are on the button bet everything but on chip.

The problem with this is that in a low $ tourney position doesn't mean squat to people in the beginning. It's not till after the blinds get very high that position is actually observed.

If I'm going to have to play crap cards I would like to see suited or connected cards. For some reason I also like 4/8. Don't know why. Must have hit a monster with it one night when I was drunk.

I just pick a spot.. A(x) suited and unsuited. K(x) suited and unsuited.. Paint cards suited and unsuited, and any pocket pairs. I try to live by the sword of all-in when my chip stack is less then 10X the amount of the BB. I do need to double up and/or triple up when possible.

Also try to pay attention to the board, what's been flopping lately, what have people been playing for cards, et-cetra.. then I will look at my cards, say this is as good as time as any and all-in.

Nice cards to go all in with Ace, but if you are short stacked you will have to lessen your requirments or you will get blinded out

See a flop with 7-10 offsuit or suited or with pair smaller than 5
Push all in with pair of 5's or better
All in with any Ace

Position is still the most important factor but if it's do soon or die time, these work for me.

A hell of a lot depends on position, as some of the other members said. The downside to having a short stack with big blinds is that you are likely to get called by the BB at the very least. I would be looking for any hand where I would be in a decent coinflip situation. This could be suited connectors, A-rag or a couple of face cards.

At times though 2 live cards may be the best you can hope for
