In this topic, we will fine-tune the qualities that a poker player must have to become as great as Negreanu, Phil Ivey, and many other elite poker players.

What do they have that we could have?

- Patience
- Range Study
- Opponent Reading
- Etc...

So, what qualities should we train to become poker's elite?

I think the most important quality of all is an ironclad control over emotions and tilt because once you're tilted, you lose everything you've learned about ranges, tells, calculations, etc.

I agree with getting your tilt under control. If you plan on competing at the highest level then this is a must.

Study the game in depth, if you really want to be a good player, have a bond with good players, because they helped in your evolution process. It is very important to take care of the midset, having control over your actions is as important as knowing the theoretical part of the game well.

I completely agree with what you say about tilt, it's a really important point, managing emotions during a tournament, and why this is important, because in many tournaments we will have a feeling of injustice, and what that means? Well poker is not fair, you enter with AK and lose to a QT and lose 80% of your stack close to the bubble, you really need nerves of steel, even more so if throughout the tournament you were cautious, so emotion is a crucial factor, stoicism would perhaps apply to this, @Propane Goat, this point that you highlighted is interesting, it is really important, another factor that I also consider is patience, because in most tournaments you will have to fold many, many hands when they don't arrive, watching your opponents double their chips by playing the wrong way, so poker really is a trial by fire, if you don't have emotional management it's difficult to be successful.

I think the secret to professionalism in any field is a systematic process of learning and practice, analysing mistakes and working on them, and a consistent, step-by-step path of self-improvement and raising your own level of skill. To do this, a player obviously has to be patient, consistent, disciplined, focused and confident.

Without a doubt, the qualities that differentiate a professional from an amateur are concentration and patience.

I tend to agree with everything said so far.... unusual for me, not sure I know how to respond now lol,

but I would add the ability to adapt, people who are good at anything adapt and adjust,

that can only be done by being open to new ideas and learning from mistakes👍

I think the main thing would be patience, it's a shame I don't have that much patience yet, but someday I'll get there

Hello, I totally agree, these are essential qualities to become a professional player, you should also know that poker is a game that requires a lot of endurance, to participate in an event and finish at the final table, you need to have a little luck and a lot of skill.

I think, first of all, a player must be psychologically prepared for such a difficult path that can last for decades.

firstly you must understand the game. Know the odds, have patience, know when to be aggressive and be fearless. Also a little luck doesnt hurt.

If a player wants to become great, he has to believe in his own abilities! Also, I think that determination is the main quality of a successful player. Yes, sometimes there are failed tournaments, but you have to accept it and move on to victories. :ninja:

To become a great poker player, one must possess several key qualities: Emotional Discipline – The ability to stay calm, avoid tilting, and make rational decisions under pressure is crucial. Patience – Great players know when to wait for the right opportunities instead of forcing action. Analytical Thinking – Understanding probabilities, opponents' tendencies, and making strategic moves is vital. Adaptability – Adjusting to different opponents, game dynamics, and formats ensures long-term success. Resilience – The mental strength to endure bad beats, downswings, and challenges while staying motivated to improve. Focus – Maintaining concentration over long sessions helps avoid costly mistakes. Work Ethic – Dedication to studying the game, analyzing hands, and evolving with the meta separates great players from average ones.

Eu acredito I believe that improving yourself is very important to play poker, learning how to play. I see many players who participate in games and have no idea.

Poker is more than just a game of luck; it is a game of skill, reasoning and intelligence.
