What is the major difference between online and live poker

online game goes much quicker. Also, chip counts are so much easier to see for each player.

The speed and you can read your opponents.

Live poker is way more fun.. it's way mo better..

Live games are usually better/softer than online games, but I don't have to deal with annoying drunks when I'm sitting in front of my computer.

I think, in online platforms there are too much interesting hands.
Live poker is a clear game, no computer manipulates the hands.

yup the difference is the clothes you wear ....i once asked a host that stopped by our table to ask if we had any suggestions for the poker room ..my quick answer was "Pajama Party Night" lol the whole table of men ...all in unison said YES! lol

In my view, live is better. You can see the players, look for tells and kind of form an opinion of opponents and their play, read them. Online is pretty emotionless , automatic play, less time to make best informed decisions.

Live poker is less dependent on luck and the distribution of cards and more dependent on skill, in online poker the opposite is true.

There are a lot of huge differences between live and online, both in cash games and tournaments. The first obvious difference is that you have to physically go to a card room or casino to play live. It may sound a little ridiculous to point that out, but, if you think about it, you are taking time to choose an outfit, drive to a destination (at 5 bucks per gallon...just saying) and sit in a different environment where you don't have to luxury of toting around a laptop if you need to go to the bathroom or want a snack. There are also limited options on what you can play in a card room or casino, whereas, online, you have pretty much a whole world of options to choose from and you can have multiple games running at once. Live, you are at one table.

Next, you have the opponents. They are also people who made the above decisions, the main difference is, they have come to play and not fold. So, you will run into much looser opponents (I know this sounds crazy, but it is true) in live games than online. This is for a few reasons: they have come to play, there are fewer hands per hour so they are forced to play a wider range to "get in the action" and most of them do not play a lot of online poker so they are not as strong. That's why a .10/.20 game online is actually pretty comparable to a real world $1/2 game.

Further, in live games, you and your opponents are physically present. This leads to having live reads and picking up tells. This is HUGE especially if you pay attention and pick up on these tells while trying to minimize your own.

Finally, live poker is pure. There are no RNGs to determine outcomes. Sure, there are still bad beats, but they adhere to the mathematical probabilities that you would expect. Online poker does not (even factoring in the extra hands per hour and all the other excuses online poker uses), the fact is that there is no present way to simulate the actual shuffling and dealing of the cards. But, at least in online, you don't have to tip the dealer and the cage. LOL.

This is just a short list. If I had time to really examine it, there would be a much more detailed explanation. But, I am sure you get the point that online and live are really two different games and should be treated as such.

Good morning everyone, the main difference is the fact that in live poker you can only play at one table and in online poker I've heard from good players who play up to 20 tables. weak at 6 tables. As the profit in poker comes from volume it is very difficult to be profitable playing live poker, these top players who have millions in prizes playing live are impressive players, have a lot of technical and mathematical knowledge of the game and hardly make mistakes in the plays. Another thing that I think is different is the results of the hands in my opinion in live poker you often win with weak hands, the guy has A9o hits an A flop and beats 2 or 3 players, in online poker everything has results with very strong hands, flushes, full houses much more often than the probability of the game itself says it will, in my opinion. When you create a poker game, for it to work, you need a program and all some poker sites will have a schedule that has results that are closer to the results of live poker, other sites will all the time have results that are out of reach.
The site that I lose the most with AA is on pokerstars, this is very curious, and the site that I earn the most with AA is on Bet365.

The diferences are the software that is managing the tables

For me Online is much better because for 1 I don't have to travel, 2nd I can stay comfortable in my own home and enjoy food/ drinks that don't cot an arm and a leg

The speed is different, the table talk, the reads, the feel, the experience, especially when you have a deep run. All in all I love online but it's nowhere near the same when you final table

The positive point is that you find bad players betting bigger amounts. The downside is that the number of hands played is usually lower.

In online poker I think it is good for you to learn strategies and study. And in live poker I feel more for those who have more experience in poker.

IMO there are huge differences between live and online(you can even say that there are 2 different games), I mean live it can be really slow and you need to be mentally prepared for a long grind and being stared for a couple of minutes when involved in important pots(you need to be a decent 'actor' too and good at reading your opponents)... Online, you can play multiple tables at the same time - so the volume output is way better and you can stop/ resume whenever you want, also you don't need to worry about the acting/ reading skills- plus you can switch tables easily online if you have tough opponents around while live, in most places, you can't really do that...

Also, people live play differently than online- way more loose and agresive, so if you don't have a decent bankroll you might be in serious trouble if you are unlucky...

Online is faster and multiple tables can be played, very good for learning and gaining experience.

You see the players live, you can talk, watch their reaction, the pressure from such a game is much higher.
