Our beloved game is governed by logic, but illogically intuition sometimes becomes an ally. If it were just logic it would be a monotone game.

Both our needed. Logic is your first priority. Most of poker is logic and probability But at the same time...Intuition will service you using your notes and knowledge of players tendencies to decide when to throw logic out the window against a players weaknesses!

On the face of it logic and intuition seem completely separate. However, in your example, of raising with 7,2 or folding AA on or around the bubble.

So I think you are suggesting it is intuition to do these things, whereas I would argue there are times when it is perfectly logical.

If you are sitting there with AA and after 2 raises, you get re raised all in after the flop, it might be logical to bin your AA, as you retain a decent stack, don't miss the money, and more importantly don't go out. However these are rare very specific situations.

Some with raising with 72. If you are on the button and 2 medium stacks are to your left, they both play pretty tight, then logic dictates you should raise. This isn't intuition, its good play, as there are blinds to be stolen around bubble time, as players get tighter.

To clarify, I don't think intuition plays a big part, especially online. But sometimes you are just stuck in a spot where logic could send you either way, and you just have to choose.

I think it is much more logical than intuition,because we have many concepts and strategies. If you only use intuition over time, not only will we lose our line of reasoning and play, but we will also lose confidence.

I think I'm with you on this one: Most of the time I try to play the way I've been learning and stick to it. SOooo many times, I've had a hunch but thought "no, too early" or whatever and folded only to see it come up in a full house. Occasionally, I can't resist and call and sure enough, my hand (that I should have folded) wins. But it has to be a very strong urge, otherwise you can just find yourself thinking it's ok every time you just consider doing it.

I think logic should be your base and intuition should be what allows you take advantage of situations, like knowing when to make a bluff, when you make a hero call or when an opponent will call a bet they shouldn't

Logic ever. But have times that your intuition will bring you better results. Because poker have the emotional condition too and the same thing in your life. Sometimes we take decisions with our intuition and have extraordianry gains. its good to get out of the logic sometimes.

Logic is more important. But against high skill players. When you have a big hand
you can run into situations where someone has flopped the nuts or a monster and just let you keep betting to hang yourself. In these situations , you need more than just logic not to get outplayed. You have to have a sense that your beat and get away from your hand. Logic and some intuition to play key situations.

I think it is definitely logic. It helps to have a good intuition but I think your mind automatically makes logic out of your initial intuition in a given situation. And if your intuition logically makes sense then you go with it and make the call or move. If the intuition doesn't make sense and my logic is counter intuitive I usually fold or check the move. Safer to run away and live to fight another day.

Logic is essential to understand the game and the balance of the cards but it is not the only thing that defines whether a hand is a winner or a loser, it is a human game so I think that logic is very important but intuition defines if you are a great player or one of the bunch.

For me is logic 80% and intuition 20%. I think playing more based on intuition is more lotery then poker.

I think that poker is a prime example of how logic can often be a handicap when confronted with pure insanity and volatility. To answer the question, I think that raw instinct is the key component to playing poker, primarily online poker, which correlates to the luck and variance that defines online poker.

Logic helps, but not if you are playing on a bluff-a-lot table, logic goes out of teh way and it's better to play with facts, like the 2 hole cards on your hand and get as much information of players , bet sizes and expressions to get more pieces of this puzzle hehe

That is an interesting question. I think that logic hardly plays in my game anymore, and its mostly intuition now. I have a lot of experience. But perhaps I am a loser lifetime in poker and I need more logic. Or perhaps I just don't have enough intelligence.

To me the question is akin to asking if poker is "skill or luck"
Both are the same, you need both in the right order to play good.
Logic is more important as is skill, whereas intuition is like luck which you also need to win,
AA hole cards = Logic says go all in
opponent with AQ plays with intuition
the board gives you A 10 J K x
or A 10 K x x
it can go anyway.
no hard and fast rule here.

Of course, poker is the logic. If you hope for intuition, then at a distance you will lose, even if sometimes intuition helps. Only logic and the study of opponents at the table.
