I only play online poker as a hobby, and so far it has been profitable for me, even though the amount is not very large.

Online play because you can multitable and that means less variance and more $$

I've played in live and online poker rooms, and I've made more money in online tournaments. Everything is relative in poker, but I've had more luck and more winnings in online tournaments.

I’d say online poker is more profitable. You can play many tables at the same time, which means way more volume compared to live poker, where you’re usually stuck at just one table. In the long run, playing 8–10 tables online gives you more chances to make money or go deep in tournaments than playing live.

It greatly varies on your area and the type of games available near you. Generally, I'd say online has the much larger potential for making (and losing) money, because you can play many more hands per hour compared to live poker. You can multiply the number of hands per hour even more if you multi-table online.

Live poker is only more profitable if you are playing in some large game and especially if you have a huge skill edge. If playing a high stakes game against some fish, then of course, you're set up to win big in the long-term. Live poker has more fish, so the right environment, live is very profitable.

I'd say online is still better overall because of how much faster pace the games are, but the right live situation might be more profitable too.

I think online is more profitable than live, in my opinion, considering there are more tournaments and sites for you to play on simultaneously.

Both online and live poker can be profitable but they reward different skills.

Online poker offers speed and volume. You can play multiple tables at once, see more hands per hour, and take advantage of bonuses and data tools. If you’re disciplined and analytical, this can translate into steady long-term profits.

Live poker, on the other hand, is slower but often softer. Many players are less experienced, and if you’re good at reading people, spotting patterns, and staying patient, the edge can be significant.

So which is better?
Online = higher volume, smaller edges
Live = lower volume, bigger edges

In the end, the most profitable format is the one that fits your strengths and mindset. Master your environment and the profits will follow.

It depends much more on the player than the format, but in general live poker tends to be softer while online is tougher but higher volume.

Live gives you bigger edges against weaker players, but you play very few hands per hour. Online you get way more volume and can scale your winrate if you are solid.

The most profitable path is usually playing where you have the biggest edge and can sustain volume, not choosing one format blindly.
