What is the most important quality in a good player?

What in your opinion is more important in this case: the ability to quickly calculate probability for certain cards, psychology or luck yet? And maybe something else?: Путать:

The first 2 things you mentioned, knowing your opponents, putting them on a range of hands when they act...and then the luck....the luck is the absolutely most important thing...if you have a run of bad luck that just won't end, it can destroy certain personalities....others are OK with it.

I assume your asking what qualities a good player needs?

I think the ability to assess their situation (i.e. are they ahead, behind, what they need to win)

Patience. This is so important (mainly tourneys) So many times I have come back to make deep deep runs with far less chips than others. People go on tilt, and get desperate or make dumb moves when they do not have to.

Tilt control. Like above, less you tilt, the more clear and focused you will play.

Any decent player have to be a very but very cool person to play without any emotions and feelings. Have to be patient of course or will play hands that he would´t play and one of the most important: have to pay attention to details. Like Doyle said: " Pay attention and it will pay you"

LOL, If you rely on luck, then you're a fish. To be a good player, all you need is basic math and poker skills, good reading ability(think Daniel Negreanu or John Juanda) to help you get payed off big or help you save money in case you get a bad beat or behind until the river, psychology to help you get payed off big(straddles, check in the dark, bet in the dark, etc.), and learn how to the survive the coin flips because this is where your either going to chip up or go broke.

Like CarlTrooper & many other said; patience. I fold a lot of hands many would consider great hands deep in a tourney b/c they are all about lasting the longest.

Luck is huge too. How many times have you been 80-90% on the turn & lost on the river? A lot I'm sure. Be really careful about going All-In, especially in a tourney.

the more important quality for me is never get tilted, because, when you tilt you can lose all of your money by making wrong decisions. the best poker players have almost the same poker skill, however its the patience, and being calm even after a terrible bad beat which makes them having an edge over players who cannot control the emotions. Knowing the odds, and reading the players is also very important, but the main key is to have a proper bankroll managment and to be calm even after suffering a terrible bad beat.

Why would you not want to go all-in on the turn as a 80-90% favorite?

Please, give me two pair on the turn and you can have your flush draw. Sure, the flush draw is gonna win 20% of the time, but what is gonna happen the other 80% of the time?

Theoretically, the luck is gonna average out over a million hands. you are gonna suck out on people, and people are gonna suck out on you. There are other hands that you can win with skilled play.

I agree with a couple people above, the most important thing to have is experience. Always be thinking when you are playing, and go back and review your key hands when you're done playing (specifically, your key hands that you lost in.) And just keep improving

the ability to read tells and calculating your odds quickly should qualify. also playing certain cards in certain positions and willingness to fold premium and aka "lucky hands".

I believe it's all in you ability to read. I understand the need for odds but more important are tendencies, patterns, and tells. Just like 60% of communication is nonverbal that carries into poker. What type of player are they? Does that fit their pattern and how can I counteract that, and when should I run. These are what will make or break you as a poker player.

Online it's mostly about stats. HUD is your friend.

Live it's more about the ability to calculate odds quickly and most importantly the ability to read your opponents well.

It depends. Being good doesn't always mean the same thing because it's relative to your opponents. So, it's quite different to be good at the entry level compared to small stakes, mid, high and nosebleed. A decent mid-stakes player should crush the micros and would very likely be crushed at the nosebleeds.
