I am kind of confused about rake can someone please tell me I know its An amount of money taken out of every pot by the dealer. This is the cardroom's income. my BF says this to but I don't understand this rake thing and he don't know why either if there is a thread on this can someone please direct me there I been looking and can't seem to find a thread on rake thanks

You basically said what it it yourself - a % of the pot that is taken out and kept by the house in ring games. Say if you have a 2% rake and a $100 pot, the winner of the pot will only actually recieve $98, with $2 being held by the house. In tournaments the rake is an extra amount added to the buyin that isn't included in the prizepool, hence you sometimes see tournaments referred to as $20+2 for example. Here $20 goes to the prize pool, and $2 to the house.

All poker rooms have (or should have) literature explaining exactly how they rake pots.
