What stakes should I play with a $250 BR?

I had $3000 a few weeks ago and I was playing at $1/$2 tables and buying in for $200. But I've had to withdraw a lot of my BR for various reasons, and lately I've been running bad so I've lost some money. So right now I have $250, a website I went to recommended to play at $.10/$.25 so I tried that a bit, but it seems too small of stakes. What stakes should I play? Say I have a $3000 bankroll, what stakes should I play then? Thanks.

$250 bankroll indicates 10NL (.05/.10). Try multi-tabling at that level and see how it goes.
$3,000 bankroll: I have no clue. Probably best to ask guys like Tenbob or ChuckTs.

u should be playing 10nl$ at the most
u cant afford at this point in time anything more
and with a 3K roll u should be playing 100nl$ not 200nl$

%5 rule man, it's been stated a million times on the forums. Do a search on bankroll management and you'll find plenty of helpful results.

.05*250 = 12.5

Next stakes down would be 10nl.

.05*3000 = 150

Next stakes down would be 100nl.

God you guys are crazy.......with $250 at least do .10/.25

That's 1,000 BB, I say only drop down to 10nl if you get under $150

Guess I am "lose" with my money...

If you are going to start multi tabling 10NL, you need to have $200-$300.

If you would like to play 25NL, just play 1 table.

Multitabling makes little to no difference. With a $250 bankroll you shouldn't be playing anything higher than 10nl, otherwise you're putting your bankroll in the hands of variance, aka gambling.

If we're talking fixed limit here, that does change things. Playing 25nl would be a massive mistake and you'd deserve any downswings you got. Playing .10/.25 FLHE, then that would be more than enough.

but really if ur playing 50nl with 250 ur only allowing urself 5 buyins, lose 1 and u lose 20% of roll
now if u lose 1 buy in at 10nl with 250 roll u lose 4%
i think u might have made a little calculation error

Well it depends how you define BR. If your BR is disposable and when you lose you can just add more on then you can be a bit looser with your requirements. However if should you lose your BR, you don't have any left to add, you should probably be even stricter than the 5% rule.

Agreed.

I had $200 on bodog and went on an 11 buyin downswing, but had no problem fighting back up to $150 still only playing .05/.10

Had i been playing $25nl then I would've lost waaay more than what was in my br at the time.

The .25/.50 was Limit, not NL. Sorry bout that.

And I am pretty $10 - $15 at the table is enough at .25/.50 FL.

But I have always gone by $250 = $25NL and if your BR runs down move down to $10NL.

Playing with that big of a portion of one's bankroll is exactly why people have tilt problems and swings they can't handle. That's simply way too much.

I am pretty sure I was told here at CC that to play $25NL I should have at least $250....

And what is wrong with $10 at .25/.50 Limit?

ok, I think you're getting mixed up here.

For FIXED limit, you should have roughly 300 big bets.

For NO limit, you should have at least 20 buyins.

You're right about the rules for fixed limit, but it's much different for no limit.

Anyways, to clear it up for ben who's head is probably spinning right now, you should have roughly 300 big bets for fixed limit, and at least 20 buyins for no limit. So stick with 10nl unless you feel like gambling.

Oh, for that I was talking about No Limit.

I have always used $250 for $25NL and then $750 when moving up to $50NL. But I guess to be on the safe side $250 is better at $10NL :\

But at the same time, the post you gave me in the blog I think explains BRM better for the casual poker player that isn't going to be looking to play for an income.

Also very true. I guess you could say BRM is relative.

Like you say, if you're a casual player that doesn't care about winnings, then you don't need BRM. If you're someone who lives of his/her poker winnings, then you NEED BRM.

I just assumed someone who's coming to a poker forum to ask exactly what stakes they should be playing with their specific bankroll size would value their money a bit.

Articles here and here. Personally, I don't like losing 10% of my overall bankroll, so I want to make that rare and difficult to do. I am super conservative at 100x the buy-in personally.
