Poker is a game but also a foreign language.

Once your skills reach native-like fluency, then you can start using special words that can lead to significant influence and control of other players.

It takes dedication, time, money, passion etc.

I realised that I need more selfcontrol. I've been thinking that I had enough of it, but last events proved me that I was wrong. Being able to focus on the table is insanely important. I'm quite happy about my knowledge and the way I play when I'm focus.

Starting with a solid course is a great place to begin. Cardschat has a wonderful course in the learning poker section, and I also have this playlist I made for beginners http://gripsed.com/win

Watching twitch streams, poker on TV (PokerGO is a great resource) and even hand history reviews area a great way to get more insight and breakdown from high level thinking players.

Youtube highlight reels and shows like WPT and wsop are alright, but when they are highly edited they can give an unrealistic expectation of what it's really like to play poker.

This is why I always preferred shows like Poker After Dark where they actually showed every hand. Training videos with live play are also nice because there is quality breakdowns.

Books can give a good foundation, and forums can give great feedback. I even made a video to discuss all the different possible learning sources and how to get the most out of them.

First and foremost, you need to know yourself. Especially your capabilities and weaknesses. It's good to be aggressive, but there is a fine line between being aggressive and being reckless. All the videos in the world won't help if you're not a visual learner. Analyzing your hands won't do much good either if you don't have a frame of reference to compare them to. Playing with full concentration does nothing if you keep making mistakes. Once again, know yourself. Create a set of self-imposed rules, some based on your weaknesses and strengths, and some based on experience, that you make an agreement with yourself that you will never break. If you break one of your rules, regardless of the outcome, consider that you're playing stupid and force yourself to quit playing at the first opportunity and get some rest before returning.

I still lack a little patience when the game goes on for too long, I start well, but when the game goes on too long I end up stumbling a little due to lack of patience.

But I'm already working on it, and playing a lot of hands throughout the day ends up helping, because I believe I'm getting better with each hand I play.

To improve my game I need to stop practicing on play money tables.
I've been living in China for 8 years and have no means to make deposits until I return to Canada and of course there are no casinos here.

I play mainly sit & go's on PokerStars with a 41% win rate (18% 1st, 15% 2nd, 8% 3rd), but have no gauge to how my actual game is improving. I had never considered freerolling a bankroll until I read about it here on Cardschat.

When I joined the freeroll club, I thought it would be easy money because the field is small. But to my surprise this was not the benefit. Staying focused and being creative is one way.

I'm missing the time I can improve my game! I don't have time to play as much as I would like and for this reason when I play I take a lot of risk and so I'm eliminated faster, I do this because I know I can't finish a tournament being forced to leave.
