Regardless of the routine, I only play poker when I'm out of work. I like to entertain my mind thinking about the most diverse strategies.

I don't have a routine to start playing, just start some music before I open the software and look for a tournament, and I don't play when I'm tired, angry or pissed off.

Just make sure all my needs are met to be comfortable for a while. Make sure my drink is full, I don't have to potty, have some candy nearby, and close down any distractions. (News)

I try to get things ready that I know I will need, for example, water, a snack on hand, if lunchtime approaches, leave it ready just to warm up in the 5-minute break and try to relax with some music from relaxation or some funny video. Regards.

Whenever I am getting ready to sit down awhile and play some cards I always make sure I've eaten something, have snacks nearby and some drinks. Having these things will make longer sessions more enjoyable, at least for myself.

Remove distractions and sit down and play.....
Easier said then done but removing thoughts and distractions of other things allows you to maintain focus while playing at your current best.

I totally want to say "I rub one out, then power nap for 20 min, wake up and wash hands before sitting down to play" just to be funny, but I also don't really have a 'routine' before playing. I guess if I have a routine, it's make sure the kids are all fed and happy pre-game.

It usually takes me half an hour to prepare for the tournament. Usually I just have to make myself a few sandwiches, a cup of coffee and go for a smoke break.
