Poker is more complicated I think

Chess is more difficult. Way more possible decisions. Was in chess club in school. Went to city finals! But then was taught a real lesson!

Both poker and chess belong to the category of strategy games. In both cases, the player's task is to make the best move in the given situation.
The sequence of such moves is calculated in advance and formed into a strategy subordinated to one goal - victory. The ability to think strategically is essential for both the professional chess player and the poker player.
The difference here is purely quantitative: a chess player builds a "long" strategy within one game, which can last for several hours (or even days!), Trying not to lose concentration, and a poker player - within one "hand", this is the time between full by distributing cards and taking over the bank.

Poker, on the other hand, gained recognition not so long ago, at least later than other card games (for example, bridge), and is still associated exclusively with casinos, which is not true: poker is, first of all, an exciting intellectual pastime.
Both games involve similar mental processes, including the ability to analyze a situation.
Playing on the "machine", you can not win either poker or chess - at least with a strong opponent. Players have to choose different options and instantly assess the advantages of one action over another, while not forgetting a lot of information.
It may seem that the chess player has more work - indeed, the number of possible moves and combinations in this game is simply amazing.

As MishkaZL stated, "patience and discipline" are needed for both.
However, chess is purely cerebral. It is all about out thinking your opponent. Period!

Poker is partially that but it is much more about managing your risk according the situation at hand. In that sense it is much more like managing an investment portfolio.

Depending on the hand (market) you fold (sell your losing stocks), stay in (maintain your portfolio), call or bet a little (buy investments that look good with great potential, but have not gone up too much yet), or bet big or go all in (buy Tesla and pray).

Just depends on how you look at it. Of course chess is harder, but the luck factor is a lot less present. So if a rookie plays against a pro chess player, you're 99.9% sure the pro will win. In poker this is not the case, and this makes it more unpredictable, and perhaps more difficult. The rookie can still win from the pro.

These are very different games. Chess is game of pure skill where better player almost every time win. In poker variance have much bigger effect on the end result.

I completely agree with you. You described everything very well. But although I do not know how to play chess, I think that in this game players also need to be able to properly assess their risks.

hi all , to start off with both are complex games , some have more luck element than the other , however in my opinion there is a big difference in "edge" , in chess for example an edge is almost everlasting, a novice player entering a tournament has almost no chance of winning vs the rest of the field of grandmasters , however in poker we know that it's very possible, and this main fact is why poker is much more attractive to the public, almost anyone regardless of experience of level of play can win a poker tournament which includes the worlds best players, also in chess one opponent can beat a lesser one by say 1000 - 0 games, in poker this isn't the case and even in 1000 games, a novice player can beat the best in the world...
luck doesn't even need to be a big element besides having say AA vs KK etc where the pro never folding KK ,
therefore in chess there is almost no hope, none for a novice to win, this can be crushing mentally, and a lot of people who start chess and get crushed remorselessly simply give up the game ....... poker is much more forgiving, of course people give up poker too, but usually for the reverse reasons - viz - bad players winning all the time despite mathematical odds against it, and some good players tire of this and give up as well ,
this highlights another difference, in chess this will never happen, a bad player can continue to play bad and lose every single time without fail, if there were money involved in the chess games, the bad player would be broke in short time
bottom line poker is easier for a novice to learn basic stratergy enough to win wsop vs worlds best , they are different games, and because poker is easier to win most people prefer it.
one thing to consider is as poker gains popularity, perhaps more chess players will move to poker, however some pride and feelings of lost time spent if leaving chess may prevent some from doing so ...

Chess is more difficult than poker because chess requires a lot of knowledge and skills, and in poker you can win some time if you're lucky.

Well I guess it depends. Poker has luck involved, quite a lot. Chess almost none. I guess I'm better at poker than at chess though

For me for sure it is chess that I don't even know where poker is going to be, but it's easier

I would say chess is more difficult than poker.

Whichever game you're better at versus whichever game you're worse at is the game that's hard if you're good at a game it's easy if you're not ready to game it's harder so which game are you good at chess or poke and if you say both then you know the answer good luck on the cables everyone and as always have fun

I think chess. I think poker is easier. this I referred to myself.

In my opinion chess is more difficult to play. You can win a poker tournament with 5000 registered players but if you don't have chess skills it would be difficult to win at least one game against a professional

I can't say right away that poker or chess is more difficult, but I will only say one thing: a person who knows how to play chess will find it easier to learn to play poker because of mathematical thinking, but a person who plays poker, I think, will learn to play chess will be more difficult and rest will take much longer, therefore, in my opinion, chess is more difficult than poker.

I don't know how to play chess but I deduce that it is much more difficult because in chess, skill and strategy don't have the luck variant!

The hardest thing about chess I think is recovering the queen after she lost and in poker having an accurate bankroll control.

Well I play both and sometimes am better at chess, however I would suggest that both games are deserving of time, study, patience, practise and mostly for Poker a lot of luck.

Both of these games are difficult in their own way and very much require good thinking and endurance.

I don't know chess as much as I do poker. I really don't like chess. However, it is clear that chess is a much more complicated game than poker. So chess is much harder!

Chess. I just like poker because I can use many advantages. In chess not many that can differ. Like patience psychology timing and such.

poker is harder. the theory involved in poker might be similar in complexity to chess, thats not what matters. poker has rake you have to pay and that is something chess doesnt have.
