When you start out in a donk fest (defined as a huge freeroll or a sub $1.10 buy in), you will lose if you play in hands where 6-10 people see the flop even if you have JJ.  Point being - you have to observe the table and get the inteligent people to fold.  If everyone is a moron at your table (quite unlikely) then it's probably best to not play until they eliminate themselves (or play a rebuy and take some huge risks prepared to throw down some rebuy money).  I mean fold the jacks preflop as crazy as it seams in some situations.  
 
Once you have a read on your table, If you have watched a few hands and there are 2-3 calling stations at your table you may have to push all in to get the rational players (those who want to make it deap into the tourney) to fold.
 
The better you learn to read players the easier this gets.  Another reason most players prefer live games.
