If you are short stacked then you go in with anything, what have you got to lose... If you come up against AA then so be it. You were going out anyway if you didnt do something. Should you get lucky then fair enough.
 
Likewise if you are chip leader and its hardly gonna cost you any of your stack then why not have a bash.
 
What we are talking about is people who do it for no logical or sensible reason. There is no pressure. They are risking their entire stack on a call that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. They dont consider that they could lose, they merely think of the increase in their chips should they get lucky, and thats precisely what they need... To get lucky..
 
If you have AA you have a hand. If you have 7 4 you dont. You dont even have a good hand.. You find me one person who can say that when they call an all in raise with 7 4 they believe that to be the best hand on the table...
 
As for your final point over what you would prefer to have against AA, then thats a nonsensical point. If we could choose hands to go against AA with then QQ or 10 J suited would be even better, but you cant decide which hands you are going to have when your opponent gets AA. And I know that 7 4 in my pocket is NOT the hand I want want. In fact its one of the last hands I would possibly want..
