When to overbet?

When is the appropriate time for an overbet? Is it kind of a wing it thing? Instead of sandbagging, is an overbet sometimes more appropriate? I was just wondering. Do you guys think it is better to use this on more experienced players to trap when you have a good hand? Or more less bluff the loose bluffer? Just a thought:itsme:

For value or to bluff. In terms of bluffing it depends so so much on history and reads. For value, typically it is in a situation where you think villain has a strong holding that they aren't going to be able to let go. Think a board like AA6. With alot of action a hand like A7 isn't super strong on this board. So villain might try to c/c and not play for stacks, BUT if you overbet shove the river (which looks a little like a bluff) villain may very well be unable to lay down the hand and you extract maximum value.

sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt ,do what you think sometimes it pays off well

Although I don't do it too often, I notice some folks overbet a flop to protect a vulnerable hand from flush or straight draws.

I like to over bet when i have a strong hand but there is a draw to a better hand out there. Sometimes though I have seen people overbet to make it look like they have a big hand but missed the flop when they actually hit it. sometimes it works and u cant paid off and sometimes it doesnt i say u just have to feel ur the right situation for it to work like against a calling station or very loose player

When you have your opponent on a strong hand, like a set or something or a smaller straight, overbetting will usually pay you off

Sometimes when i have a flush and straight draw, and i hit the straight but not the flush, i'll overbet because there's a strong chance he'll put me on a missed flush draw

You want to overbet when the table knows your a known bluffer but this time you must know you have te nuts and then overbet they might go all in thinking your weak and thencall them or when you have your opponent(s) pot committed and you have a pretty sold hand then overbet to try to get another player to go all in. Also the last reason why you should overbet is when youhave nothing but you have to bet to represent the best hand and make people fold.
