It's easy to forget when you've been the one catching and dishing out the bad beats. Law of averages says that if you're making the right plays, it will pay most of the time. But you'll always get the odd bad call etc. And if you're on a bad run, step away for a few days or a week.

This.

I am honestly glad there seem to be more posts along this line particularly when they come from players with some experience. For many players it would appear to be taboo to underline when the run bad is suspect and unrelenting.

Anyone with half a brain understands variance, but as I noted the other day, after several years of playing I have had consistent down spells but not once a sun run of say a week or so (just a nice short burst of run good) when I could not lose. People keep stating that in the longer term variance will balance all. I have spent the last few years online patiently waiting for the 'balance' which never arrives.

It is what it is, so I accept it. However, the entire 'all will balance in the end argument' just gets weaker as time passes. From where I stand you are either 'fated' to make gains or not - read into that what you will.

Just do not get in too deep, do not take matters too seriously and it can remain enjoyable if frustrating at the same time!

Honestly it might be your game than. Go back and look at where you can improve. Work on your mindset as well. Seems Ike you've let apathy get the best of you.

The less you think about injustice or bad luck this will soon end. We all have these streaks and we deal with them differently. For my part, I let a few days go by and I go back to the ring.:):)

Good grief. Deep thoughts -thanks for the world class advice.

However you might begin by looking up what apathy actually means. I play virtually every day and I have yet to lose a dime online as all I have done is build bankrolls from scratch via free rolls.

I am not coming from the place you assume I am.

I never said anything about your skill. Just seemed like if you have plateued at a particular point than you should look at your own game other then blaming variance.

Maybe try to react to winning in the same way as you react to losing. And notice that things are not so bad. It's just that victories are usually less noticed than painful defeat.

You can be sure that it is not only happening to you, I am also going through that bad streak, the variance is always in favor of the other players. But do not give up, poker is like life, you will always have another chance, you have to arm yourself with patience and knowledge for when it is your time.

I think you made a conclusion, had presumptions about my game, pegged me as negative and then replied in a cliched manner without a beat.

In fact I stated 'anyone with half a brain understands variance' which was in fact intended to deter from anyone responding in precisely the cliched manner you did.

Well you can now assume I think someone is super insecure about their intelligence and game in this exchange.

It's not me.

Well I am glad to hear that I am not the only one who feels like they are getting shafted by players who go into a hand with crappy cards against my so called good ones and they end up beating the crap out of mine

Nothing you can do ! I lost an all-in with pocket aces against 8-4 off suit. Take it on the chin and carry on.

I've been there mate. Make taking a break from Poker might help? The most important thing is that you don't let Poker start to change your life for the worse. Make sure you're not betting anything you can't afford to lose and staying healthy with your playing habits.
Good luck!

The fact is the majority of online players (most players) are losing players. I am determined not to be one and I believe it pays to have a cynical attitude so as you continually check your investment whether that is time or money.

So, a word of advice. As a relative newbie on the boards I don't assume that you are either experienced or lack experience. I presume you play and are interested in poker. However as a newbie to the forum you should have a grasp on perception. Therefore talking down to someone as if you know better when you are relatively new to the forum is never going to be appreciated.

I read your other comment about insecurity and from the first comment until the latest you now start to sound juvenile.

For what it is worth, I came to the thread contributed, sympathized with the OP and he gave a thumbs up for the reply. You came here ignored him knocked me. Yet, somehow you call me insecure - feels like projection to me

The luck is an unfaithful whore who goes from hand to hand, you will get it too. Unlike luck, knowledge is constant, it does not change the possessor, practice and be patient.

Sometimes you will run bad longer than you ever thought was possible. I am sorry but there is no easy fix or simple answer.

The best thing to do is keep playing your "A game" every day, and quit when you recognize the signs of tilt.

Eventually the math will take care of itself. All the best :)

I did not expect an apology but accept it and offer thanks in return. There will always be an issue with this type of communication (in forums without a human interaction) where people react and over react...so I'll apologize also, if I took your point a little more seriously than was warranted,

Good luck on the felt!

Playing poker is something like those people who like to get tied up during sex and get tormented to death. I guess when playing online poker you got to expect a bit of short term pain for long term gain.

I have personally been on such a downswing.
That everything I do gets beat.
I lose to every draw and lost 94/100 flips
I honestly felt like I sucked at poker
Makes me wanna quit but then it all starts getting even again but darn does it suck till then.
Keep your head up
sometimes downswings last a very long time
