In your opinion, who do you think is the best Texas Holdem player today ?

I am leaning towards Daniel Negreanu , but I am no expert, just based on what I have seen.

Ivey, Hellmuth, the grinder. That said there are about 100 players so good that if they get on a heater they are unstoppable.

Phil Ivey is a mind reader. His poker is almost perfect.
I really like Negreanu too.
But, when you choose a player to be "your master" you have to see if his/her style is right with you.
I really love watching Gus Hansen's agressivity.

Phil Ivey is the best and very few are even close to his level. Tom Dwan is pretty amazing and a close second IMO.

Wow, I am really hanging myself out to dry here, but....Antonio Esfandiari?
Not only did he maintain his composure to win the big one drop, he has made the final table at the 5-diamond event two years in a row, he has cashed in it another 2 times (I think it's four years in row). Also, Daniel Negreanu rebought six times (doh) into this same event. 60k down the tubes. Ouch.

I keep hearing about how great Durr and Ivy are, but how many times have they cashed lately? How many final tables? I think these guys kill the cash games, but for MTT's I gotta go with the magician.

So, MTT - Antonio
Cash - Durr.

Its impossible to say one name :D But my favorites are Negreanu, Ivey and Liv Boeree. Well, to be honest I picked her more because of she is just hot than how she plays :D Too bad that she is rich, there is no chance she will turn into porn :D

I think it's Johnny Chan, because he had 2 first place, and a second place all back to back world championships!!! I doubt very much if anyone ever matches that, let alone beats it.

Negreanu is so good at calling people's hands and breaking down situations with such precesion, but lacks creativity or sometimes tries to do too much in the wrong spots. Ivey and Durrr are always willing to take things to the next level, so I vote Durrr and Ivey

That is largely because the fields were WAY smaller back then so it was actually possible to do that.

It's subjective. Many of the top players are the "best" while the cards are running good.... Over time, several names stand out and it is purely subjective to pick just one.....

It's honestly someone you've probably never heard of they just make their money and stay out of the poker "spotlight"

Stu Ungar was clearly one of the best minds to ever sit down at a card table so his name belongs somewhere in the discussion. Of course there is Ivey but in the end it's all subjective.

I would love to think it is Phil Ivey. In the high stakes poker episode where Tom Dwan bet huge and he just knew he was good but couldn't call that huge bet. Tom was sweating bullets. Money puts pressure and makes you think. Phil Ivey is my pick for the best poker player right now.
