Who was Jamie gold and what did he do that was so significant?

I keep hearing his name getting thrown around this forum and all over the internet. I am a bit ignorant when it comes to poker history expect for the big players like Phil ivey, Etc. I know he won the wsop 2006, but why was he so significant?

WSOP Winner in 2006. Rumor is he is broke now. He was extremely lucky in so many hands in that WSOP. Not only was he catching all his draws. When he had like a 10% of winning after the flop he would catch runner runner to win the hand. Quite possibly the luckiest luck box ever

He is one of the guys who ran real good and struck "Gold" one day - actually over a few days LOL. How and why he got so lucky after seeing his play after that series is beyond me. Shows that it can be done by almost anyone in my opionion. Lot of real good players have not got that chance that he did so he lived the high life for as long as possible and is a broke *** bugger like us folk now LOL.

Besides winning the ME in 06 .... I do remember watching him donk off some 100k buy ins in High Stakes Poker. Besides being significant ... it was also somewhat entertaining. At least he was rambling honestly all along how bad of a player he was compared to the pros he was dumping his chips to. I think all that cash he brought was actually burning a hole in his pocket because as he kept saying he had to leave, but kept playing and couldn't stop throwing bills/stacks/chips or what ever he could get his hands on into the pot for easy takings by the others in the game. He didn't seem like he would be happy until he got rid of it all ... if as someone had mentioned above, he is broke now, then possibly he was successful.

Fact is, we all dream of a run like that in the WSOP.

What we're pissed about was that it was a luck run to a bad player. And especially how he handled it. When they brought him on HU they we're talking of how he's gotten lessons. The world champ.

The world champ should be GIVING lessons...

If I won , I would certainly handle it differently. And I would still have my money. Cuz I'd just play on my win. Go after GM, or Proctor and Gamble. Poker would be just what I'd do to keep the endorsements going. In fact, if I made the final table, I'd go after them during the break. Sit down at the final table with a Tide hat and shirt.

Come out the other end like a squeezed cherry pit.

Iirc, he also told everyone what he was holding the whole time he was playing. I also remember him eating blueberries (which were pegged as a brain food by some nutritionist) day in and day out, while his mom glowed at him from the stands.

There's no doubt Gold got lucky to win the ME. As to the apparent delight some people take in knocking his game, I don't see the point. He's certainly not on a level with best players. So what? If I denigrate his game, it doesn't improve my own one iota.

Also, let us not forget that he promised 50% of his winnings to a backer and then tried to back out of it. When confronted with a recording from an answering machine that proved he was lying and the threat of a lawsuit he paid up and called it a "misunderstanding".

That's why I don't like him. He's a lying weasel and I take him being busto as karma.

He and Jerry Yang are probably the worst players to ever take down the main event but Jerry Yang is a fine human being ( a little over the top on the god business but sincere.) while Jamie is basically a con man IMO.

I agree that Jamie Gold was extremely lucky on WSOP 2006, but what are the odds to beat the 10k players field purely on luck? I've also seen a picture made by some kid offering private lessons from Jamie Gold for $1,000 per hour.
