1) because absolutely anyone can learn to play poker.
2) because people themselves are gambling. There is a money - there are people.

Kozong has it right:

At it's core, the game is very simple, and above the core, most variations are pretty simple.
There is also the opportunity to win money.

It also gives us an opportunity to prove that we are smarter than everyone else who plays it, and that we can outwit them.

It's also fun.

I've been playing for years, and years, and years, and am still working at it.

The magic in poker

The thrill of playing poker is pretty incredible…. It is addictive for sure… poker conjures up many emotions throughout the game….it consists elements of excitement, anticipation, fear, intrigue, curiosity and ultimately the dopamine release when you win!! Feels good to win and win more often…. Give me more!! ;)

I think poker is one of the most popular online entertainments in modern history. In my opinion, the most pleasant thing about poker is victory, thanks to skills and experience, and this is what attracts players.

I still don't consider poker that popular, but I think in the future, if we continue to invest in more regional promotions and tournaments, it could expand more quickly.

The whole reason is related to the fact that poker is tied to money and the excitement of winning money attracts many. It seems to them that it is quite easy to win money and thus they play in the hope of winning.

Why is poker so popular?

I was actually thinking about this very recently and I have come to the conclusion that Chris Moneymaker could be the single most influential variable when it comes to poker's popularity. I know that for me personally, his takedown of the WSOP main event was truly epic and influenced my interest in poker. When you talk about the "American Dream" as it's presented to the masses, the world had the chance to witness an underdog make it happen. His story is amazing and I can relate on a more personal level because I was a CPA in public accounting firm in my former life. It's a great profession to make a good living but the work can be cruel and brutal at times. To me, Chris is a living legend.

Poker is so popular because it's a social activity. Unlike many other games of chance, you play poker with other people... This fact makes poker a perfect game for friends and tournaments. That's precisely why many people often play poker at their homes with friends or family and why so many tournaments exist.
Poker tournaments are also have some of the biggest prize pools — largely thanks to their huge viewership, which gets them lots of high-profile sponsors. For example, the world series of poker’s prize pool is about $1.5 million.

Poker's popularity is tied to the tradition of serving cubes of cheddar cheese and pineapple chunks on cocktail sticks at the halfway stage of play.

I agree that poker is popular, but there is also a lot of prejudice against the game, especially from people who don't know the rules and how to play. There are uninformed people who think that playing poker is a misdemeanor.

I think the thrill of playing and winning is the draw. amassing chips feels good, and winning money helps too. But like no other game, there is the bluffing element that intrigues most.
