Why run someone down?

Aren't you happy when people are calling your raises with 7c2c when you have QQ. And then if they flop a flush draw and decide to go all in and you call (as a 65% favorite), what else can you ask for? And then if they catch a club on the river and you lose, oh well. Because if you get into that situation a million times you're gonna win more than you lose.

I agree 100%. You will win more times then you lose. However I do not like someone thinking they are a good player just because they got lucky.

I agree that this verbal abuse has no place near a poker table. But I think that if you find yourself a table with a player like this, best thing to do is ignore them. You can't let one person get under your skin like that and make you play bad because now you are worried what he/she will say after the cards are on their backs. If it's too hard to ignore them, get up and leave, nothing is keeping you their. The game is always there the next night

It is crass stupidity to critic opponents play.If you think they played a hand poorly note and use there bad play against them later.Alerting them helps them play better, why would you want that.

My mum used to say "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything."

I think that this applies to online poker chat too. If someone wins a pot against you, regardless of how they do it, throw them a 'nh' and leave it at that or say nothing.

The only exception to that is if you know the player really well, and I mean that you both feel you are buddies not that you have played against them lots of times, you can add to it a little. Something like 'nh you idiot' and don't forget to add a smiley. Very important creature, the smiley.

Henry I agree with you on this. My point from the beginning is just not to tear someone else down.

For the most part, when I see someone tearing someone else down. I think the person tearing down the other is a jerk and just makes me want to knock that jerk out when I can.

Many of you have made the point of why educate them and I understand why most of you would not. Again this is something I was thinking of in real life not online. When I see my friend going and throwing his money away week after week because he is just not grasping the game I do feel bad about that and I will try to help my friend improve his game so he is more of challenge not only for me but for those people that are calling him an idiot.

I also think about it like this if I am the one who has educated him I know a little bit on how he may play LOL.

Your friends are short sighted. Don't tap the aquarium. Say nice hand make a mental note and go on the the next one.

I am also not an advocate of going out of the way to teach someone. If he is a nice guy and asks OK, but I will never offer poker advice without being asked.

Also I think any negativity is bad even aimed at another player, because your mind is not as focused or relaxed.
can easily end up losing track on your own game and observation worrying about one bad player, you may miss something valuable in the next few hands

I am very friendly when it comes to playing poker (live games). Even when a bad beat happens I will always say great hand, and if they are close I'd pat them on the back or shoulder. Poker should never be intimidating or threatening. You shouldn't have to explain yourself.

I love that kind of positive attitude. I like seeing the losing person not get mad but instead saying nice hand way to go. I do not see why someone is going to yell and get angry.

I just try to remember my first dozen times in the casino, underage, sweating, tipping over stacks, betting out of turn, being really nervous and there were a bunch of nice people (probably some drunk lol) that made it easier.

We all think of crushing at the table, but we all have to remember that this is such an amazing game and the more the merrier. Keep people wanting to play instead of scaring them off.

-1 to turning off chat/putting on headphones and ignoring talking. Super +ev to get a friendly image with the fish. I literally got to the point where the biggest whale in the room (routinely would drop 10k every time he came) would try to get a table change to sit with me because I was his "nemesis" and was friendly while the other regs would just sit there with their hoodies and headphones.

In a live game, I agree completely Zach.

Online however, and when multitabling in particular, I find engaging in chat to be more detrimental to your game than not.
