Yes

Yes, with careful bankroll management and a bit of luck in a bit MTT!

I used to play a fair bit of poker back at uni(college in US english) and one of the guys in our poker society turned pro after being pretty solid online (Sam Holden). He decided to play the 2011 wsop Main Event staked 40% himself ang raised the other 60%.. he ended up coming 9th and cashed a pretty nice amount. He signed to 888 poker but fell out of love with it an retired a couple of years later but still was set for life!

Someone else used to play sunday million satellites on pstars and then sell the tourney dollars. but one week the sat ended after the tourney started so he had to play it and ended up winning it and taking home $233k he used that to start playing the professional live circuit and has cashed about $1.8m to date.

There are many people who if they make a living with this beautiful game and sport but still you have to dedicate it like all work, soul, life and heart so that it can function in the best way and also would have to spend these last two to be the best in this

You can 100% make a nice living playing poker. The real question is are we good enough to play for a living. Even if we are there is something many people may not think about. We play this game we love to make some coin and enjoy the game. to play professionally is work. Lister to player talk about play 30- 40 or 60 hours of poker a week to make that living. While it maybe nice to do it would become work if you went this route.

Of course you can, if you are a good player and know how to play. But this requires a lot of experience and work to make money on poker. And a little bit of luck !!!

First rule of poker player: you do need a luck (especially in MTT) but you cannot rely on it.

I don’t think so based on playing alone. The ones who do mak a living do so by having other revenue streams as well, such as sponsorships, twitch streams, backers, etc.

That said, if you win one tournament for $1 million plus, I’d stop and say I made a living playing poker.

I can't, but then again, probably only 1% of the people who try can. Not sure about that number... :)

A small percentage of the general players make money from poker. But this is not given to everyone, I think so.

it's very hard for recreational players to win long-term. You need a lot of patience and skill to do that in the long run

You can make money with poker, but whether it will be enough for life is a big question. In my country, this income is enough, but with a stretch and no frills. Of course, it all depends on the amounts that you play for the month on average. In my case, this is minuscule. I tried to play at the higher limits, but I am constantly moved from below.

Considering the typical day job is 9-5 there is so much room for the average person to play poker after hours and maintain a steady non-variable income

In general I believe it is better to think of it as a side income, gives less less stress.

It can be done
I think thats more easy if you are a great cash player then a great tournament player
In MTTs sometimes you spend more then a month withou some great result, in cash games the results are constant

This game is so unstable that I don't think you can have a stable, constant income in it.

In cash games if you are good then yes for sure as so many tilting and bad players are there, in mtt it can be done as well but need loads of luck in deep stages.

First of all, remember that even though I love CardsChat for many reasons, this is a site for recreational players. Maybe there a few pros who make a little money by contributing but most if not all people responding to you in this thread are recreational players. This means they do NOT make their money playing micro stakes poker.

So, now to the question, people can and do make a decent "living" playing poker professionally. You must be willing to treat it as you would a job. You need to "work" regular hours and this includes hours of study and preparation for playing.

I was in a unique situation, I became disabled, so my living expenses were covered by my disability insurance. I never really worked hard enough at poker, I am slightly profitable and I enjoy playing. I don't enjoy grinding low stakes tourneys for 80 hours a week. I had dreams of being "pro" until I realized that I am too old and do not have the desire, so now I just have fun and play as much as I like, I am not moving up in stakes as fast as I think I should, but I have definitely improved and that is OK for me at this time.:D Having fun is what I enjoy most

 Of course, if there are many cases in the world, what happens is that you have to prove it if you are really good at this.

for me this is a very interesting question in my country in a small town with an average income of about $ 400, it seems to me that if working on a game is quite realistic, but from a psychological point of view, it is difficult to leave work "at the factory"

The dream of many players who started in poker, the reality of hundreds of players who suffered. They persevered and the order that led them to make the game their way of working day to day was constant with discipline. ,,, It is a long way but what if you can ... if you can .... compete in the way of poker and discipline ... perseverance..Good luck all of you ...
