One thing I used to overlook a lot is how much stack sizes should influence decisions.
Same hand, same position—but completely different play depending on whether you’re deep, mid-stack, or short.
I’ve started paying more attention to stack-to-pot ratio and planning hands accordingly. Some spots become easy folds or easy shoves once you really factor it in.
Ignoring stack sizes can put you in awkward situations where you’re basically guessing.
How much do stack sizes influence your decisions during a hand?

Stack sizes influence my decisions a lot, especially in tournaments. The same hand can be played very differently depending on how deep the stacks are. With short stacks I usually simplify my strategy and look for push/fold spots, while deeper stacks allow more postflop play and creativity. I also think stack sizes are important because they affect pressure, fold equity, and how much risk you can take in certain situations.

I honestly don’t think I respect stack sizes enough yet and it gets me in trouble. I catch myself playing hands the same way whether I’m like 20bb or 80bb and that’s probably a big leak. The more I learn, the more I realize everything really changes depending on the effective stack, not just your cards.

Like when stacks are short it feels way more push/fold and straightforward, but deeper stacks get tricky because you can lose a lot more in one hand and need to think ahead more streets. The smallest stack in the hand basically controls how much can actually be won or lost, so ignoring that is kind of playing blind .

Depends on who has the stack. I'm never respecting and always attacking the weak players if they have a big stack. Winning poker even MTT winning poker is about attacking and taking advantage of the weakest players at the table regardless of their stack size. I actually hope the weak players have a huge stack even in MTT's. The thing about MTT's is one has to be a bit more careful playing weak players who have a big stack.

21+ year player and this mindset has always served me quite well.

Cheers!!!
