not actually for poker, but for gambling in general...
only gamble with extra money...
never gamble with money that you have set aside for bills...
learned this lesson the hard way...

I read the thread, good tips, and almost everybody followed the instructions except for one to a customer.
Are you sure you read that whole thread AND the instructions? Instructions said 1 tip and 2 sentences max. After the first page or so, people were writing paragraphs. I was going to compile the 100 best tips to publish here on CC, but the freeform that the thread took on made it impossible to edit down to an organized list. Unfortunately, I had to give up.

Even in this thread, people are already starting to ignore the instructions in the title:

Oops. Including me. Sorry for the hi-jack. My vent is over. Carry on.

I would say play well within your bankroll. If you play with money that you are scared of losing, your play becomes sub-optimal.

BANK ROLL MANAGEMENT! very helpful...but as far as playing, i'd say patience, not feeling like aww if i dont double up soon im done or feeling like eh im done i might as well jus keep tryin to catch...learned to just sit back and wait if the cards get crappy, and hey in a tourny it helps cuz ppl will keep getting eliminated

In Razz, if your hand doesn't have 7 or lower in the first 3 cards, muck it.

Once you've seen a flop and determined the viability of your own hand in terms of ways out, pot odds, etc., don't forget to determine the likelihood of what your opponent(s) have (or don't have). Gaining the ability to reasonably predict an opponents' hand takes experience, but it will pay off in the long run!
