The reason is very simple and banal. QQ is actually a ready pair, and on the preflop, the ready pair has a slight advantage.

It depends on the situation. QQ is a made hand and has a slight edge preflop against AK, but AK has more playability postflop and can dominate hands like AQ or AJ. If I'm deep-stacked, I might prefer AK since it has more potential to hit strong hands. But in a shove-or-fold scenario, QQ is more reliable.

QQ ends up being a much more comfortable hand to play than AK, considering that guys I can lose a lot with AK in the post-flop

I'm sticking with QQ. Normally, at a table of 8 or 9 people, there are only 2 A and 2 K left in the deck; the chances of losing are very low.

QQ is already a pair. AK is nothing before the flop.
