In the pursuit of poker profitability, with each hand, seek to place your opponent in a group of hands that you believe he can have in a given scenario. Also put yourself in a range that you believe your opponent thinks you can have.

These are the basic preflop odds and their approximate values:

EVEN VERSUS TWO HIGH CARDS: (44) 50% X 50% (AK)

HANDS DOMINATED BY THE KICKER: (KQ) 75% X 25% (KT)

EVEN VERSUS A HIGH CARD: (QQ) 70% X 30% (AJ)

HIGH PAR VERSUS SMALL PAR: (KK) 80% X 20% (55)

ONE HIGH CARD VERSUS TWO MIDDLE CARDS: (A3) 55% X 45% (QT)

HIGH PAIR VERSUS TWO LOW CARDS: (AA) 85% X 15% (89s)

HIGH CARDS VERSUS HIGH CARDS: (AQ) 60% X 40% (JT)
