To what extent is it profitable to defend the BB with hands like 76s or 87s against a Button open range? Do you prefer to flat call or go for a light 3-bet to take down the pot pre-flop?

Thats a standard defend, unless BTN makes an oversized raise like 4-5BB. You can 3-bet that kind of hand from time to time, but the standard play is to just call and see a flop.
