Something I’ve been trying to improve is having a clear plan before I act—not just playing street by street without thinking ahead.
Instead of just asking “what do I do now?”, I’ve started asking: “If I bet here, what’s my plan on the turn? And the river?”
It’s crazy how often we put chips in the pot without really knowing how we’ll react to different outcomes.
Having a plan doesn’t mean you won’t adjust—but it keeps you from ending up in tough spots with no idea what to do.
Do you think ahead in hands, or mostly decide as you go?

I think I have a plan for some hands, but not for all.
Sometimes I act without thinking about the consequences, and this often leads me to difficult situations where I don't know what to do next.
I'm trying to improve, at least having a basic idea of the next step before making a decision, even if it's not a complete plan.

Do You Actually Have a Plan for Every Hand?

After more than 10 years of playing the game and studying lots of spots/charts/etc... I have a 'default' strategy for pretty much every hand and/or how I should react to my opponents' plays... of course we all adjust as no spot/situation is exactly the same(type of opponent, stack sizes, table position, table dynamic etc), but we (should) study and work on continuously improving our poker game to be prepared for all this different situations - hoping that this will improve our chances of winning 💲💸💰

Maybe we are going to study all our lifetime and then still no plans for every hand... and still we would have to add to this things the spots, the opponents, the phase of the tourney and many more things...

Rather than having a plan for every hand, just talking to yourself before every click by staying in the present moment can make wonders happen!

I don't have a plan for every hand. Depending on how the plays and cards unfold, if I did have a plan, I would certainly need to adjust it. For me, it's not necessary to have a plan for every hand, but the most important thing is to have options for multiple plans, depending on the needs and obstacles that arise, and to use the plan that is most consistent with the goal of winning the hand.

I don't always have a plan, but I do have a well-structured strategy for table positions, which has been working very well for positive results in tournaments.

I get that, and honestly I used to play the same way—just reacting street by street. It works sometimes, but I found it puts you in a lot of tough spots later in the hand.
You don’t need a perfect plan for every scenario, but even a simple idea helps. Like: “If I get called here, what kind of turns am I continuing on?” That alone already makes decisions easier.

There is always a plan - this is the basis of systematic work.
