Some players stay in my mind because of one unusual move or pattern. Do you actually remember regular opponents and adjust your game when you meet them again?

Yeah, I definitely remember some players. There are a few I just can't forget, especially if I lose a big pot to them. I even check the tournament members list sometimes to see if they are playing again. If I notice the same player at my table, I usually pay more attention to their actions and try to remember how they played against me before. It doesn't mean I automatically change my strategy or try to get revenge, but I definitely keep an eye on them. I guess I can be a little bit vengeful sometimes, But at the same time, remembering these players can be useful if I focus on their playing patterns instead of just the fact that they beat me.

Without a doubt, notes in all!!
moraeskvmi, notes definitely help. Even a quick note about someone’s betting patterns can be useful when you run into them again.

fzap1983, I like that distinction. Remembering how someone played is useful, but letting a bad beat turn into revenge can easily hurt your own game.

Only them who win with a bluff
Snurkel1, haha, those bluff winners are definitely the ones that stick in your memory. Getting bluffed can make you remember a player pretty quickly.

If I don't have a note or a mark, I don't remember it.

@mrfastflow, that makes sense. Without a note or some really memorable hand, most players probably just blend into the crowd after a while.

@ramdon p358, same here. An unusual move is usually much easier to remember than a player who just plays a standard, predictable game.

I play too many tournaments across too many platforms to remember individual players—though, come to think of it, I do recognize a few screen names, even if I don't have specific notes on them. As for closed tournaments. Playing a specific strategy against a particular opponent is really more of a cash game thing.

waiting to get revenge lol
@hoachec, haha, that’s exactly how a bad beat starts living rent-free in your head 😂 Just gotta make sure the revenge doesn’t cost more than the original pot.

Generally yes, for those who require it, since I make notes on most of them.

yeah lol notes help a lot, otherwise i forget them pretty quick

Sometimes I take notes, otherwise I certainly would not be able to memorize all the different players and their patterns.

Remembering regular opponents and their patterns is one of your biggest edges.
If you know how someone tends to play, you can adjust your strategy before they make the same mistake again.

same here, there are way too many players to keep all those patterns in my head without notes

for sure, knowing their usual patterns can give you a nice little edge before they even make their next move

In online poker, special programs known as HUDs are used for this purpose; they display statistics for each opponent.I remember it anyway, without notes.

that’s pretty impressive, I’d probably need the notes if I had to remember that many player stats

A great reminder: success isn’t just about the game it’s about remembering the people you shared the table with.

Try to most of the time but if its online then notes and huds are very conducive

for sure, online makes it way easier with notes and HUDs, otherwise keeping track of everyone gets pretty tough
