Poker seems to reward patience a lot, especially over long sessions.

At the same time, being too patient can also mean missing good opportunities.

Do you think patience is the most important skill, or is something else more important?

Patience is important, but discipline and decision-making are even more important knowing when to wait and when to act is the real edge.

One of the important things for sure. Poker punishes inpatient decisions very strictly.

Patience pays off over long sessions, but it's necessary to combine skill, and discipline, as well as emotional control.

Patience is fundamental, but I wouldn't say it's the most important thing, at least not on its own.

After all, if it were only a matter of patience, we could just wait for premium hands and go all in, and we know that if that's the dynamic, we won't win much money.

Many other attributes are necessary for a successful player...
(reading and understanding the game, good bankroll management, and a certain level of aggressiveness)
All players tilt and can lose their patience from time to time (right?!)

But it's part of the evolution; understanding the nature of poker, in addition to controlling our emotions, are aspects we should always be working on.

🌱 <--- 👀 my patience is on the left! hahaha

Patience is one of the most important skills in poker, but not the only one.
It helps you wait for strong hands and avoid costly mistakes.
However, reading opponents, bankroll management, and adaptability matter just as much.
The best players combine patience with strategy and emotional control.

I think patience in poker is that 20% that will yield 80% of your profits. Because with a minimal understanding of poker math and iron self-control, playing is much more enjoyable and profitable than being a poker genius but then losing control after the first bad beat and playing a losing session.

For me, the most important skill in poker and in life is discipline. Without discipline, you won't get far, and in the long run, you'll be eaten away, so that's how it is.

I think so, to have a good game you need a lot of patience, especially because the sessions are long and it ends up being very tiring, for a better analysis of the hands and actions.

I believe that patience is very important, but skill (including strategy) is the most important thing.

I wouldn't say the most important, but it's definitely up there. Some might say that aggression is the most important. All I can say is that patients does really pay off in poker

Patience at least personally is the hardest thing to consistently get right. Sometimes you have a gut feeling and want to shove it, but discipline and keeping consistent with high EV calls is ultimately the better decision!

As already mentioned, it’s part of the “main package,” but I don’t consider it the most important factor.

I think patience is more like a foundation than the "most important" skill. Without it, everything else kind of falls apart. But what really separates players, in my opinion, is the ability to stay patient and still pull the trigger when a spot is +EV. A lot of people are patient in a passive way, folding forever, but the good players are patient in a selective way, they’re waiting with a purpose.

Emotional capacity. Yes, patience, courage, and the ability to get back up, for there will be moments of loss every day.

Patience is definitely up there, but I don't know if it's the literal most important thing. Probably bankroll management or game selection would be number one. Both of those can be influenced by patience though. It's definitely something valuable as a trait for a poker player.

Poker requires the whole package...patience is a part of it, along with the ability to adapt, discipline, decent math skills especially in terms of probability, social skills to read your opponents (faces and body language if playing live poker...hesitation or patterns if playing online).
